So with Coach Miles’ journey to Dallas to speak with LSU CB Jalen Mills, it has also been rumored that he was to be meeting with 5 Defensive Coordinators. While the potential Defensive Coordinator hires have been talked about and debated since rumors surfaced of John Chavis’, at the time, potential departure. I have not seen a Total Defensive ranking for each of the coaches to give a purely statistical look at each. So I spent the better part of the day researching and compiling a quick list to see from year to year how the Defenses under their respective DC’s have faired. You will also note that I put the previous year prior to that DC taking the position for a reference. After compiling these numbers I have came up with my own personal Best to Worst Defensive Coordinator hire list. Here it is:

1-Brent Venables
2-Clancy Pendergast
3-Bob Shoop
4-Kevin Steele
5-Mike Stoops

Venables is out of the question IMO.

Coach P is our best option.

I would argue Shoops resume is better then Pendergast's

I'd rate them:
1 Shoop
2 Pendergast

3 Stoops
4 Steele

That dude spent about 30 minutes compiling that information and the rest of the day putting pretty pictures together.

I think we hashed all this out about 3 days ago.

Why is Venables ahead of Pendergast?

I like

1. Venables
2. Shoop
3. Anderson - he improved the cardinals defense after the previous def. coordinator left. He's also a LB coach.

I don't like CP's resume.

Coach P bringing in Coach O is the ticket. Great combo from a coaching and recruiting side

You can't loose one coach and bring in two. Not under the current rules.

Move Steve to administration then Brick to LB? Good point though, And what if the New DC does not want to retain certain coaches?
Usually you see promotions not lateral moves and this lateral may be more difficult to handle

Pendergast just hasn't spent as much time in college football as Venables with the results. Plus he has never been in the south while Venables has established himself really well at Oklahoma and South Carolina. Venables has the more stable, productive, and overall solid record IMO.

Why does everyone want a coach that had average defenses across the whole conference? CP did alright in his conference and with what he had, but in no way did he ever excell and get more out of what was available. Everything I have read says he's a OK coach, but nothing like what we loss.
