I haven't really read up on it but I hope what everyone is saying isn't true. I hope they not just going down Rampart to the Marigny and stopping on St. Claude @ Elysian Fields.

That would be silly. They are finally building in the right direction to make a new functional street car line that could service the most needed part of the city with having to add on to the Canal line with the least amount of construction.

The loyola line is a joke and something I think the city had to agree on for the super bowl committee. From what I understood when that line was going in that it was supposed to eventually circle back down Howard avenue area down to convention center and back down river to reconnect to the Canal line. This was told to me by a guy that worked for a San Diego firm that actually put in a bid for the work..... So it sounded like the guy knew what he was talking about.

Walking is faster than the pointless touristy streetcar. Every cent thrown at the streetcar is a cent wasted.

Yea for now they are. There's plans to extend it all the way to Poland but that's probably a long way off

WTF?
Umm . Ok you and I start at the St . Charles line downtown. And meet at Camella Grill. I'll be there for breakfast. You'll be there by lunch.

The street car is a big part of New Orleans. This line will help with the revitalization of that area. And continuing the line to Poland would be huge.

Yeah, those folks don't believe in the idea of any public transportation or using bikes up in Baton Rouge. If they can't drive to and from with that SUV or 4 wheel drive truck, then it isn't worth doing.

All the way down to Poland by the Canal is what is needed. There is the room on St Claude dor the construction and there are plenty of yuppies in the Bywater and Marigny to pay the $1.25 for a ride to not have to take their bikes to the quarter. Also if you from that nine and don't mind dying.

If it stops and Elysian Fields, I guess that puts it in walking distance to some nice eclectic bars and restaurants. About 3-4 blocks from Marigny Brasserie which is the beginning of that strip of bars going back towards the river on Frenchman.

If It would go down a little further to Franklin it would make a lot more accessible by street car. would add Mimi's, Lost love, Silk Road, etc.

Eta: LSUtigersVCU, what are you even talking about? I hate when ignorance shows up in these threads and opens their mouth when it's obvious they have no knowledge of what they are talking about. It must hurt to be so ignorant.

Uber and cabs are faster. But which would you rather on the streets: RTA busses or streetcars?

Busses and streetcars are way more reliable than Uber or Cabs. Plus they cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.

even when I have the free Tulane university buses that ride between campuses. I can take it from the main campus that will drop off close to my apartment at the Tulane hospital or at the Canal street campus, I'll still sometimes take the street car from the campus uptown to my apartment on Gravier. It's about a 20-25 minute ride going that way and not bad at all.

Streetcars also cost far less to operate than buses.

For culture and tourists, I like the street car and it certainly should remain as is. As a reliable transportation method, I would rather the bus. I take the magazine bus once a month or so. It's super easy and cheap getting to the quarter or CBD.
