Someone tell me about it. Is it too far to live in Seattle and commute to Tacoma?

It's in the PacNW.

Shouldn't you know some things before committing to move there?

Pretty long drive, but opposite the heavy traffic for most of the way at least.

Seems like it'd be a great place to live.

I did the reverse commute (Seattle to Tacoma).

It sucks. I wouldn't recommend it.

Traffic is fricking miserable on the 5.

Tacoma has lots of good areas but lots of shite in between. I lived their for 9 years. Lots of good memories.

Nope, matter of fact if you're going to commute that's the way to do it. You'll be going the opposite way of the shitty traffic. People head north to Seattle whilst you'd be going south. Just don't live too far past the space needle or you will fight the traffic heading south into Seattle from the Lynnwood/Edmonds/Everett area.

For lunch I highly recommend the MSM ( magical sandwich makers) deli, yelp them. They have awesome sammies.

I do know some things. I looked at places in University Place. But I don't know if that is my thing. Will go back for a visit in the spring.

huh....it does when you are in the traffic. No traffic is heading south to Tacoma, at least not the kind that makes you want to shoot yourself.

Is this a work move, or just looking for a change move?

Got friends in Capitol Park. Is that a good area to commute from?

Doesn't have many pockets of shite but isn't bad.

North Tacoma has the best area throughout. Check it out.

More a family thing. But it is a career move. Looking to settle in the PNW long term.

I have no ties to Washington but I would move there in a heartbeat.

I'd like to use my car as little as possible outside of the commute. So walkable areas are really what I want. Also will need to be in Seattle a lot but the job is in Tacoma. Trying to figure out the best balance.

I wouldn't say there is "no" traffic. It also varies a lot on where in Seattle he wants to live. I lived in Fremont and then Capitol Hill, and there was always traffic around downtown even going south. Once you got past 90 it wasn't too bad until you got to Federal Way or so, but morning traffic southbound in/around Tacoma sucks pretty much, too. If he's going to be at JBLM (like I was), that's another twenty or thirty minutes (at least) of traffic just from Tacoma to the base.

Evening rush hour traffic northbound on 5 is truly awful...every bit as bad as traffic going the other way It sucks all the way from JBLM through Federal Way and then again around the airport and Tukwila and then again once you get near the city.

If he wants to spend two hours every day in his car, then by all means, go for it. I sure as hell wouldn't do it again. There are some nice places around Tacoma and you can get to Seattle pretty much whenever you want.

That's fine, you hop on Madison to the interstate.

Yea, that's important for this decision - where in/around Tacoma will you be?

Tacoma traffic in and of itself ain't nuttin to F with.
