It is hot/humid in St Augustine this afternoon. I turned on my central A/C and it appears to be stuck in heat mode. The A/C hasn't been run in a while. Everything seems to run both inside and out but, it is blowing heated air, not chilled air.
The brand is American Standard if that helps.
Any ideas what is wrong?

Try coming about 3 hours South. Are you sure it is in heat mode and not in need a freon charge?

I haven't a clue. It seems like heated air to me.
I guess a a repair is in my future.
It is unbelievably warm in Florida today. I rode my mountain bike several miles on the beach this morning and I was sweating. Unusual weather, even for Florida.

Check the pan in the attic underneath the unit. It may have water in it causing the float to stay upright. Empty the pan if so. Either that or needs freon is my guess.

If it is a heat pump, the reversing valve may be bad.
It is also a symptom of a bad thermostat. Those can be cheap.

Condenser fan may not be working.
