It's very obvious by now that putting guys into the NFL and supporting their decisions are our greatest recruiting tools not named Frank Wilson. There is zero reason after last year for Tyron to come here other than the fact that barring injury he's going to be a 1st/2nd round draft pick, because that's what LSU does. Say what you want about Miles as an xo coach, but this man supports these kids and sets them up for the long haul.

As much as I want guys to stay, I know that more often than not, it's in their best interest to leave early. If we want top talent, it's just something we have to deal with.

while I agree with you in general some of our guys would be better off staying for their senior seasons. Collins is a big example of this; he's a first rounder now. sure, guys like beckham, landry and hill had no reason to stay but c'mon man some of these guys aren't even getting drafted.

Then you don't want a championship team I guess. It's a great recruiting tool, yes, but as far as team building it is a horrible approach. You never get experienced depth and are always playing with inexperience at key positions.

If all you care about is recruiting rankings, then it's great, but it isn't about building a championship team. Sorry buddy.

It's a double edge sword...

You recruit kids with the premise of providing a chance at the NFL and a degree. Ultimately, you got to think Collins and Mills won't really improve their stock significantly enough to merit returning, especially with what's coming behind them. I believe Kwon and Hunter could really improve their draft stock with another year but there is some risk involved. LSU will be loaded on defense next year either way. A lot of young guys received playing time on both sides and we could have a 10 win season next year.

Let's be realistic about most of these kids, they aren't engineers. Probably half are elite athletes with a good brand behind them which is LSU.

As soon as we start developing players quick enough for them to have a meaningful impact as freshman and sophomores, I'll stop complaining about them leaving as juniors. (You know which positions I'm talking about).

Considering every other year we are in the hunt essentially, I'll take one down year to have a legit shot at a national title the next. People's expectations are so unrealistic. Les has arguably the greatest coach in CFB in his division who pulls in #1 recruiting classes annually. If he's giving you any shot at a national title he's doing his job.

This isn't a Les Sunshine thread. I am still fricking furious over the Jennings/Harris debacle this year. I just think that Les has found a way to bring the best athletes to LSU possible, and that way is putting kids into the NFL.

I realize that there are "some" who get off on the recruiting rankings and that's good and all. But what difference does it make if we don't play for championships?

I keep saying this too, who gives a rat's arse about players sho bolt for the NFL? I mean of course we thank them for their service to our team, but how does that help LSU win championships? Unless those Jr's are playing for the Saints, I could care less.

Has any player declared for the draft besides Kwon and Collins?

My point isn't to not be proud of our players that go to the league. On the contrary, I am extremely happy for those guys pursuing their dream and taking the next step. My issue is that people think that recruiting this way is some great thing. It's not. It is fatally flawed, because unless you luck out and get a ton of sophomore players that are amazing, you are rebuilding every year.

We haven't been in the championship hunt past the first weekend in November since 2011, so I am not sure where some people get that idea.

LSU had 3 losses in the SEC by the first week (basically) of November the last 3 seasons and was out of real contention (i.e. effectively 2 games back) earlier in 2 of the seasons prior to 2011.

That said, LSU still has loads of talent, but if they want to win championships, it has to be with experienced players.
