Instead of going to the beach this summer we are going to take a trip to Ohio to see my wifes family. What would be some good stopping points to see on the way there/back. We have two young kids (at time of trip 9 and 7) so keep that in mind.

Nashville is a great place to visit along the way as it's kinda a halfway point.

Rib Shack in Meridian, MS "Don't need to teef to eat da shack's meat"

Space Camp in Huntsville, AL

Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky

Louisville Slugger factory in Louisville, KY

Ceder Point Amusement Park, Sandusky, OH

Where are you driving from?
Where in Ohio?

Memphis, Nashville, Louisville are all decent cities along the way.

Ohio kinda sucks, except for Cleveland.

btw, I'm currently in Ohio.

Ah, I was assuming Baton Rouge, which would take one through MS and AL.

In that case, scratch off Space Camp and visit:
Hot Springs, AR
Bill Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, AR
Beale Street, Mud Island, and Graceland in Memphis, TN

Or, if you aren't interested in Nashville, you could go to St. Louis, MO instead. You can catch a Cardinals baseball game (or at least take a tour of the stadium), go to the top of the Gateway Arch, and spend lots of time in their potentially GOAT Childrens' Museum.

It's much appreciated. If it wasn't for her sick grandmaw that may not make it, I'd veto the shite out of this.

Sandusky, OH has a really fun roller coaster park called Cedar Point on Lake Eerie, if you are going to NE Ohio. Not sure how your kids are about roller coasters but I had a lot of fun and the lake was pretty. The breeze that rolls off the lake in the summer feels incredible.

ETA: I said NE Ohio but it's more north-central.

Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, TN is really fascinating for both adults and kids....

The shortest route that Google showed didn't go through Alabama, but I'd be willing to detour for something that was worth it. At it's shortest distance it's a 1004 miles. The trip is going to be the vacation with a few days inbetween there and back with the family. I just need to break that 1000 miles up and make it fun.

Mammoth Cave, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace, find out if the Reds (or Indians) will be in town and catch a game there.

Kings Island Amusement Park in Cincy too.

Ohio would suck as a terminal destination for a vacation. Just saying.
