Obviously, it would be retarded to give a coach a guarantee even if the head coach is fired. It could easily be that particular'a failures that caused the head coach to be ousted.

That being said, is it a telling sign IF that was an issue with Chief? It sure seems like he would know something or have a strong feeling to be so adamant about it to leave over it.

For the record, I would be pissed thinking LSU would pay a coach for a year who wasn't on the staff.

Treu...think about this...who will be at their school longer??

Miles at LSU or Sumlin at A&M??

Sumlin is a prime candidate for an NFL gig in the next 2-3 years...if not sooner...

Miles will leave when he wants..

I'm guessing that was the reason Miles was so upset. He knows he's pretty much on the hot seat now.

Miles was upset because he wanted LSU Admin to take care of Chief, plain and simple.

Maybe. He could be concerned about Miles' longevity. Of course, that could be related to Miles retiring...Miles being fired, etc.

However, I personally don't think that's the issue directly. Every assistant coach has a similar clause. This is normal. And, there is no reason to think that Chief wouldn't be able to get a job somewhere.

To me, it's pretty obvious that Chavis was making the move for the money and because his pride was hurt.

Makes no sense. No way Chavis doesn't get another job if Miles is fired.

It was all about the guaranteed money.

Sumlin/A&M were desparate and willing to throw money at JC. LSU was not. I like Chief, but he is not worth guaranteed $1.7M/yr money for that many years. It's a good thing the AD/boosters didn't leave this decision up to Les.

LSU was not willing to overpay considering they are already the highest paid staff in college football.

Chavis flew to College Station, Texas, on Thursday. Texas A&M will reportedly pay him $1.5 million in his first year.

Alleva confirmed that LSU offered Chavis a three-year, $4 million deal (an average of $1.33 million per year) which Chavis declined to sign.

Alleva said the offer from LSU was “firm and fair.”

Alleva rebutted reports that Chavis left because of a clause in his contract which said LSU was obligated only to pay him six months salary should head coach Les Miles leave for any reason.

He said he spoke to Chavis before he left for A&M and there was no talk of the “Miles clause.

His original contract called for a $400,000 buyout in the second-to-last year of the deal. The buyout dropped to $0 in the last year of the contract, which was originally 2014 but moved to 2015 with the one-year extension.

“We will expect Coach Chavis to comply,” Alleva said.

Head coach? He is absolutely NOT even close to a head coach candidate in the NFL! Maybe an OC at one time, but now that is severely in question after this year.

He has had heisman players nd still lost 3 games...and somehow you think that equates to control of an NFL team and produces wins?

Nope, nope, and nope.
