325 every year. Set number If spots. Roughly 375-ish audition each year.

If I remember Ohio State has like 250 that surprised me.

Also did anyone notice that ESPN showed the Notre Dame band at all most every commercial. I don't remember seeing The Golden Band one single time.

They have 325 each year. They have tryouts just before school starts. My understanding is they are limited to 325 because of their budget.
BTW….I was in Nashville and the Golden Band was terrific at the Battle of the Bands and at the game! Congrats to our band!!

The LSU band wasn't at the game, they were interviewing for the same position at Texas A&M.

The Band was paid a stipend for their time and efforts when I was in school. I'm pretty sure they still are. It's one of the reasons for the smaller size, but the quality, as well.

If you were an out of state music major, like I was, they would often double that payment through another fund (I forget the name), and then give you a single payment in the Spring, as well.

It made getting through school a LOT easier. It's very hard to hold down a job as a music major. Too many ensembles packed in at set times during the day. Practice time was in the evening and at night, so working at night wasn't sustainable in my case.

Yes, they were. It was cold as hell out there too. I'll bet you they were freezing their asses off. ND was probably more used to being that cold while performing. LSU sounded better and played much better music.

ND's Tuba section was underwhelming.
