All butthurt aside, I really do think this is an upgrade
between him and Cam's NFL experience, it can only be an advantage for recruiting

Chavis is a good college DC. We play in the SEC. In 2015. It's not really college. Pendergrast has an NFL pedigree.
My guess:
After Arky game: Miles, "John, you need to reach out for any job offerings available for next year. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge." John, "Thanks, Les. One thing coaches love about you is you always make certain we have another job lined up before we leave. It doesn't go unnoticed." .... and a former NFL DC, Clancey Pendergrast, just so happens to be contacted (and available) the day after the season is over.
LSU contract offer to Chavis was smoke.
