I'm not going to name the source but understand it's an extremely reliable source. According to him, Alleva never once spoke to Chavis during his contract negotiations, only sending assistants to talk to him. This pissed Chavis off (feeling very disrespected by Alleva) enough to leave.
This has nothing to do with Miles - it's all on Alleva.

You all can bash me if you want and I'm not naming this source because he only hung out with myself and just a couple others last night so if I name him, he'll never tell me anything else again. I trust him and he hasn't been wrong before.

Alleva screwed up the Chavis deal. Not Miles.

Alright, I'm going eat. Happy New Year, everyone!

It's not the generals job to go talk to a lieutenant

The guy signing his checks should take the time to personally discuss one of the best DC's in the country's future with his program.

Might be true but come on, Miles was Chavis' direct boss. If Chief left b/c of this then he is a real pussy. These guys are making over 1.5M per year to fricking coach and Chief's gig was pretty damn easy for a coach. Very little recruiting, limited travel and no money limitations. How many PR type deals was the Chief ever at? Very few if any. Chief got to coach and hire the guys he wanted (remember part of the highest paid staff in the country were Chief's guys as well). Good coach but good riddance.

Gumbo, if you are correct, than we REALLY have a big problem in that the HC doesn't know (or care) what is going on with his DC contract negotiation???

If we treat our coaches like crap then that will come down to haunt us for future hires. It's on CLM to get on Alleva about this if true.

sounds like chavis was being a prima donna. sometimes you gotta let them walk. and there's a reason Miles didn't fight harder to keep him.

word on the skreet is that the coaches all knew chavis was gone in early dec.

Yep Chief got a lot of allowances that wouldnt be given to any other DC. Then he wants to be paid like he does it all.We can and will do better.

gtfo. Chavis had 1.7 million reasons to leave LSU - this isn't one of them. getting his ego hurt because he only talked to assistants is BS. This is business - not high school.

So Miles is responsible for contract negotiations now?

This doesn't surprise me. I'm not a fan of Miles, but he's world more competent than Alleva.

It feels that way.

However, if Miles told him "Chill, bro. I got Pendergast lined up if Chavis bolts. We're old pals from coaching together in Dalls. I got this, yo." then that may have factored into Alleva giving Chavis the cold shoulder.

Just a thought.
