1) Football is cyclical, sometimes you're good sometimes the cards fall the other way. Brings us to point #2

2) We are paying our coaches more than almost any team in the country. We might not have a lot to show for it since 2011, but the point is WE HAVE THE MONEY. When the time comes, we can afford who we really want.

3) The L in LSU stands for Louisiana, the most concentrated area of top NFL talent in the country. Even with other coaches picking out of our state, we will always be the home team

4) Our young players are leaders and the next few years rests on their shoulders. With LF, Harris, dupre, and Adams, we will make strides the next few years.

5) there is a new pressure on Miles. He has been stubborn when the staff was stable but will have to make changes to not go down in flames.

Thank you to Chavis for your contributions to the program. You will be missed but we now have an opportunity to rewrite the next chapter of LSU football.

While I respect your optimism, I have a hard time being optimistic right now, and I'm a "glass half full" kinda person.

I have a hard time believing that Miles will even play Harris, at least let the kid get meaningful playing time. He said over and over and over this season that BH would play and he never did.

We're never going to have kids like Quinn, Dupre, Diarse, Dural, even the receiving TEs get to their full potential if we can't get a better passing attack.

That isn't meant to be taken as a shot to Jennings. I know he tries hard, puts in time studying film and does what he can.

Miles stubbornness could very well be his downfall if he doesn't change things up.

Well, optimism is OK, but it doesn't win you games or national titles. You need great coaching and great recruiting, neither of which has been equal to Bama, and now just about everyone else in the SECw.

And the great recruiting in the past has not been used to our advantage, and will hurt our future recruiting. I mean, if you are a WR, then if the QB play is substandard this will directly affect you.

Frankly I'm getting tired of all the NFL announcers saying of late "How in the world did LSU not win National Championships with this talent???"

I hate to think we are becoming Texas (UTA)....

That's a reason to be optimistic. Us as fans know that, he has to know that. If next year tanks, he knows he is on the hot seat. Hopefully this means some changes.

I'm not freaking out, but you're delusional if you're sitting up waiting for the third act of Les Miles. The program that Saban built and that Miles successfully sustained is fading. Unless our DC hire is a good one, we'll be lucky to scrape 7-5 next year with four rent-a-wins. After that, who knows. The division is getting more and more competitive while Miles seems less and less passionate about his role in conning the ship. He has no fire left and doesn't seem to inspire the team very much.

I imagine that CLM will retire within the next 4 years irrespective of the circumstances, but I'm strapping in for a rough ride.

I agree with what you're saying with the exception of this.

We've all seen this movie before with him. And I like the guy, I've met him a few times, but as an "on the field" coach, I've about had it with his refusal to change things up during the games.

Every game looks the same. The second half of the game (take any game this season) looks the same as the first half. There are very few adjustments that are noticeable, he stays with what is or isn't working, whatever is going on in that particular game.

I'm not suggesting that he turn the offense into a huge air raid passing attack or anything like that, I like our running game and wearing down the other team in the trenches but he has to see that sometimes you have to change the offensive game plan sometimes.

I guess we'll find out next season.

Maybe you are right.....but how many more times are we going to have to throw shite against the wall and see if a quarterback sticks to get to the "time".

I was actually thinking that this could force CLM off of his traditional "conservative ball control offense and play tight defense" game planning...

. This is a pretty realistic view. Unfortunately it will indeed be a rough ride to the end. Miles will leave on his own but it will take a few years for him to realize he needs to go- expect the losses to rack up- both on the field and in recruiting. He will leave the program in worse shape than when he took it.

I agree. Good post. Watching LF yesterday - he was a man among boys. Pressure will be on Les, but I think he comes through. This is a top program given the state of high school football here, the fan base, the league we're in, and the willingness and ability to pay for top coaching.

The sunshine pumpers must have gotten snowed in today and lost all electricity. They sure aren't pumping today.

great post sir.

this program isn't broken. this program just needs a damn QB.

and I agree miles is a very competent football coach. it is time that he gets reenergized and this might just do the trick.

I been watching or listening to LSU football since 1957. Here is my take on these many years...we have NEVER been in a QB situation like we have now. Jennings seems very dedicated to getting better...but it's not going to happen. He has no pocket presence and does not even come close to making good decisions. His running ability is also not good. The future lies somewhere with either Brandon Harris or a new kid that has some QB savy. The pieces are everywhere else except where it counts the most...behind the center.

Hopefully LF and Adams can lay the foundation for our next run. They have shown alot of leadership. we just need les and cam to get out of the way
