starting tomorrow, if you get arrested in Louisiana, as your first DWI offense, you will spend a minimum of 10 days in jail.

LINK /

yet, the Louisiana State Police hand out annual awards whoever can provide the most DWI arrests….WTF that is one of the worst award systems ever created…this is why you have police pulling you over for bullshite reasons even when you haven't been drinking

And not a single person will spend a day in jail for a 1st conviction. BUT, this will allow them to raise the fines and impose additional monitoring fees. shite just got more expensive.

The way I read it states that if you are convicted of the offense, then you will spend 10 days in jail. Not just for an arrest.

A 2015 update to Louisiana DWI laws means more time behind bars for offenders. For example, up until now the first conviction of a DWI got the offender up to a $250 fine. The new law adds a minimum of ten days in jail, with 32 hours of community service. A second offense for a DWI and that minimum increases to 30 days in jail.

So you mean tonight, like at 12:01am, when they'll be pulling people over by the hundreds?

Pretty sure this law is already on the books and it's usually waived in exchange for probation/community service.

And the judge will suspend the sentence. It will look a lot more serious on your record, though.

I think he just meant you can still get arrested for DWI when you haven't been drinking.

Guess again. You are at risk of getting a DUI even when sober. Fact.
