Skeleton Crew is awesome. "The Jaunt" and "Mrs. Todd's Shortcut" are 2 of my favorite short stories.

Am I wrong in thinking that the full Dark Tower series didn't live up to the promise of The Gunslinger and that the later books were just not nearly as good as the first three?
Yes!

However it seems many people agree with you even though you are all wrong.

As many have stated, I highly suggest the Dark Tower Series.

The first book is a pretty quick read, so you won't waste too much time if you don't enjoy it (not very likely).

I haven't seen either of these mentioned yet. Needful Things and The Dark Half. I remember running through both of these in just a few days when they came out. Needful Things is so full of characters you'll recognize in your own life. It's a blast to see them tear themselves apart.

You should try 11/22/63 Kingish but not traditional king. Time travel and the JFK assassination.

Not King's usual fare, but the best thing I've read in the past few years.
For more typical King, Misery is probably my favorite.

My top 10 favorites, which match up with what others here have said:

1. IT
2. The Stand
3. Salem's Lot
4. Different Seasons
5. The Talisman
6. Black House (sequel to the Talisman)
7. Christine
8. Pet Semetary
9. Misery
10. Carrie

I don't list The Dark Tower series because although there were parts that were great, as a whole the series just doesn't hold up. Certain books were better than others, with the lesser ones seeming like page after page of filler. The ending can kiss my arse.

But, the ones listed above, are magical.

One's I've read that were "meh" in my opinion"

Hearts in Atlantis
Insomnia
The Tommy Knockers
Cujo
The Langoliers
11/22/63
Dream Catcher
Eyes of the Dragon (Pretty good, but a kids book with a plot that just didn't do it for me, too many holes)
The Shining

Overall, he's a brilliant author and certainly one of the best of this century.

I remember reading IT and just loving every page of it. I then lent it to a friend who returned it many months later. It was sitting on the end table and I picked it up to go put it on the shelf, flipped to the back and read the last chapter again just because, finished with tears in my eyes, and started over from page one. I've probably read the whole thing 5 times now.

I've read The Stand 3 times.
