Dr sleep is the sequel to the shining...

Anyone read it? Should I re read shining first?

Also, started watching haven on netflix a few weeks ago. It's based on the Colorado kid. It's pretty good, weekly stories with a big underlying story.

I hated Dreamcatcher. Both the book and movie.

Also hated The Tommyknockers both movie and book. King hated it too and admits he was too wasted to be writing.

Not fond of Lisey's story. Couldn't finish it.

He has plenty of stinkers along with the great books.

I love Dark Tower even the ending which many hated.

I'm way behind on King. They guy said he was retiring or close to it then wrote another 100 books.

frick that miniseries. It's supposed to be a song where he sounds like a black rocknroller and his racist mom doesnt like it because he blacks up his voice. In the miniseries it was crappy pop song.

And yes, the characters were bad. They changed too much, and smashed too much together.

I cannot wait for the 4 movies

I also missed the part in the book where Randall Flagg has to wear nuthuggers.

Hearts in Atlantis

I wouldn't waste my time again with the Dark Tower series. JMO.

Let's not get carried away here.

Not saying you are right or wrong, but who would you put ahead of him?

The thing that makes SK so good is not the plot, although his plots are interesting and well thought out. It is actually his characters. You are drawn into them from the first few pages.

I just finished reading "The Stand" and it might be the best book I've ever read. It is the first King work I've read too. What should be next on my list?

My personal favorite is Hearts in Atlantis, although it might be helpful to have at least some Dark Tower background before reading it.

He is really good at writing stories with kids in them (although It had some icky turns).

The Dead Zone is really good, as is Pet Sematary.

For whatever reason, I always thought Gerald's Game was just a great story as well.

I think all 4 novellas in Different Seasons were made into movies - Apt Pupil, Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, and I'm drawing a blank on the 4th.
The Breathing Method. All four of those stories were great.

Just finished his "Under the Dome" & while it's over 1000 pages in length, it took him that long to completely cover the whole story as there are a lot of characters in it. Next to the Stand, it's his best in my opinion. Dr. Sleep & Revival also good. Just makes you wonder what sort of bed time stories he told his children !

Bingo.

Even if you don't like the ending, the ride was still worth it.

I didn't read the final 3 books until Katrina. I was stuck in Houston with nothing to do so I read them and I was glad I did.

I didn't mind the ending or King inserting himself into the story.

Bump

Am I wrong in thinking that the full Dark Tower series didn't live up to the promise of The Gunslinger and that the later books were just not nearly as good as the first three?
