Things used to be different. Teens drank. Adults averted their eyes. No jimmies were rustled.

When I was 12 I ordered three pitchers of beer at Pizza Hut @ Sherwood Forest and I-12.She asked for my id. I said "does it look like I have an id?" That satisfied her. We could buy booze from the Circle K and Little General on Harrell's Ferry near I-12. Cuban Liquor at Siegen and Airline sold to us throughout HS. The only bars that strictly carded were the LSU bars. Although we could get cups of beer at the LSU Union at like 12. No fake ID was really needed, although we all had them.

Where did you guys illegally drink your youth away completely free of any repercussion?

When I was 19, I drank all the time at Reggies, Chelseas, the House, and North Gate Tavern. Heck, I often drank for free. I played in a band that played those places regularly, so that helped, but they often didn't card me even when I wasn't playing that night.

A store we called "The [Insert Racist word for Asians here] Store" at the bottom of a place called "The Hill" back home. Hell the damn owner who was Korean I think called it that LOL.

Our bars were tailgates on trucks parked in cow pastures or gravel pits 10-15 miles out of town.

First time I stepped foot in the place I was in 8th grade. I probably went there about as much as I ever went to any single bar in BR when I was in college. I never even had a feeling that I was going to get in trouble or get denied. Hell eventually it felt like we weren't even doing anything wrong

My first time in a bar was Shannon's in Plaquemine.

I was 16. They didn't give a frick.

Used to go to several bars Uptown in my Jesuit uniform after school. We'd meet girls in Ursuline, Dominican and Sacred Heart uniforms. No fricks were given. Turned out fine. Better, in fact I'd say from my more modern counterparts who can't get alcohol as readily or get into bars as easily.

The Happy Note.
Cow pastures and keg parties were the norm in the day in BR. I do remember cops showing up at a couple Camel Club parties back in the day.

Most bars in the area weren't too easy but certain stores were. At 15-16 We'd often acquire some liquor, mix it up and hang out somewhere cool, drinking and laughing and acting a fool.

In retrospect it was pretty mature partying for our age.

My friends and I kept Jo-Lee's on Florida and French Connection on Old Hammond in business in the early 90's.

Happy Note, Bengal, Southdowns, Library, Phil Brady's, Freds.

Legal age was 18 but if you were 16 or 17 nobody cared. Rodney at Southdowns usually had a guy at the door but you handed him your drivers license they pretended to look and in you went.

We used to get booze at 3 convience stores. One was at the end of Goodwood/Flannery, other was on Florida and I think Sharp and 3rd was at Jimbos when a guy at school dad worked at it.

1st time I brought my wife to BR for a visit I brought her by Jimbos, I shed a small tear when I saw that it had been demolished.

Being from Baker, we just headed into Scotlandville. Any of the small package stores would sell to us. Also, some Arab run store in Deerford.

In the early '70's there was Bill's Package liquor on the east side of Nicholson in the area of where the Enterprise Rent a Car place is located now. There was nothing else around it. It was just a small block and brick building with an old man in it. He's sell you whatever liquor he had - no questions asked.
