This is litterally one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

You take off your own cast early and wonder why it's not healing right and taking so long?

I can't tell if this is just a subtle brag thread about being a bad arse and removing your own cast, or if you are just dumb.

I guess I need to go back and reread the OP and correct it. I was not trying to wonder why it could be healing wrong, if that is what it's doing......

Go ack to the orthopedic surgeon. Or come to the ER today wait 2 hours and I'll see you tell you the same thing after an x-ray and you'll get a huge bill.

Nurse here. At 3 to 4 week the bone was not healed. When you see your doc he/she may well recast your injury. Do your self a favor and look up broken bone healing so you can understand the process. With that knowledge you will be able to follow orders. I'm not calling you down. When patients have been provided with needed education, outcomes are improved. I wish you well.

Actually i'm just trying to get a feel of what the timeline should be on the healing.

You should be fine in about 3-4 more months, removing the cast was not wise as it was providing support and limiting movement which would help with discomfort. However removing the cast at the point you did has almost no effect on "how it heals", this was determined long before you removed the cast unless you re fracture it somehow. At this point IMHO there is nothing an ortho or PTist can do other than make you feel worse about your decision to remove the cast. The die is cast either it is going to get better or not, little anyone can do at this point.

healing times

Fractures take 6-8 weeks.

6 weeks being the absolute minimum, even if you are a stud like me who ran a 4.2 second 40 prior to injury.

That's what i'm going to do.... Have an appointment with Southern Bone & Joint in MS.

While you're here Dr Lithum... I still have a piece of glass possibly up to about 5 millimeters wide and long underneath my scalp.

Should I try and cut this booger out? Or let it ride like i've done the rest and let it try and work itself out? This piece seems a little more embedded than the rest were.

As long as it's not bothering you let it work it's self out.

You sound like a 9 year old who doesn't wanna go get a root canal whose saying, "Well maybe if I just use Anbesol for the rest of my life I'll be okay. I just really don't wanna go back to the dentist."

Go back to your doctor. Or try and find a foot and ankle orthopaedic specialist. Call the BR Orthopaedic Clinic if you're near here. They're experts.

But stop trying to be an idiot and somehow find out from an internet message board if you are gonna magically heal and not limp the rest of your life without getting expert medical care for a complex joint that your quality of life depends upon healing properly.

Dumbass.

Ok it's been 8 weeks since I fractured my ankle. On the 3rd going into the 4th week I decided It was limiting me too much and MADE A STUPID SPUR OF THE MOMENT DECISION THAT IN NO WAY MAKES ME A BADASS. IF ANY arse IT MAKES ME LOOK, IT'S A DUMBASS, so I removed the cast from my fractured ankle.

Yep, you're a dumbass!

quote:

Fast forward to week 7-8 and the ankle is the SAME EXACT as it was week 4. I have the same exact movement and same pain.

The cast was there to immobilize the region so that the bones can heal. If you keep moving them, they won't heal properly. If it is fractured, it will move with any force.

quote:

How long should this be taking to heal?

If you had left the cast on, by now it would probably be very close.

quote:

could I do more damage by being on it?

Is this a serious question?

quote:

Heal wrong and walk like one of those gimp legs.

You've probably set yourself up for some lose of range of motion in that joint. Congrats! You MIGHT be able to gain some back through intense PT, but you will need to bring your own babies along to the appointment to punch.

So you're basing your health decisions and quality of life off of an internet message board posting?

Why not let an ortho tell you that? Why not seek a professional medical opinion? What will that hurt? Why is it so unattractive to you?

Dude, each human being, each joint, each bone, each injury and each healing process is different. Coming here and asking that question is begging for idiocy.

It's like me coming here and asking, "How do I lose weight? I am fat," and then getting mad when people find pithy ways of calling me fat and then tell me, "Eat less. Exercise. You're fat."

Get better, be better; all the way around. Not just talking about the ankle.
