When my youngest starts driving, I want to monitor his speed and everything with a GPS. Not so worried about where he goes since he's very trustworthy, but I know how I drove when I was his age. Anyone use one of these systems? Any recommendations?

That sounds like a horrible idea. If you can't trust him to drive in a safe manner then he shouldn't be driving at all.

Im with you

I saw a device that disabled the cell phone. The range that it disabled could actually be set so that folks in the back seat could use theirs but the front seats could not.

Not exactly what you were asking for but i thought it was appropriate.

Meh - just part of what's available with today's technology. I would imagine this sort of thing will become a standard offering in the near future (GPS tracking for cars).

If you're a pussy and afraid of snakes, that's on you.
If you're jealous that I make more money than you, that's on you.
And I'm calling bullshite on anyone in here who says they didn't speed as a teenager.

There's more serious implications here.

Do you REALLY want to know when your kid is parked somewhere with a girl?

It's more about speed. I'm buying him a new Mustang, and the wife is making him get the 4 cyl. turbo instead of the GT because of the speed factor. If he demonstrates that he can keep his speed under control, I'll upgrade him to a GT or give him my 911 when I get a new Porsche next year.

Really? Or are you kidding? To each his own but although we could have bought each of our boys a new vehicle this nice or nicer, didn't even cross our minds as parents. We're in the minority I know but my kids don't need or deserve that kind of vehicle as a 16 yo and the're both super great students and kids who have not to this point given an ounce of trouble and we trust them. However, I'm not naïve ... and I'm sure they've tried to get into trouble and either didn't succeed OR didn't get caught.

I trust him completely - he's the best and most honest kid any parent could hope for. My wife grew up differently than I did, so she's looking for reasons not to give him an awesome car.

Exactly. Upgrading a teenager to a 911 is stupid and I'm a Porsche driver. A car like that does not belong in the hands of a new driver. Recipe for James Dean.

doubtful that a dentist, or a dentist on disability makes more than me,

Why have a 911 if speeding is such a concern? Also, giving a teenager a 911 is a terrible idea that you will likely regret. High risk of it becoming a fatal gift.
