Less saturated fat than olive oil and a higher smoke point than peanut oil (470). Only $15 for a half liter.

Just saw some in my mom's cabinet today and wondered about it

My moms been using it for years. It is more expensive than just about all other cooking oils.

I've been using it for about a year. Good stuff, but it is pricey. I first found it at Fresh Pickins (Lafayette), but now I see it in regular supermarkets.

Haven't seen pecan oil but sunflower seed oil has a similar smoke point and polyunsaturated fat content. The price is similar too. I will try pecan oil if I can find it.

I had some fried fish a while back fried in pecan oil. It was good, but the guy cooking swears by the stuff. He says it lasts without burning.
He had a damn 5 gallon bucket of the stuff. I told him he was sitting on a good mine. come to find out, a buddy of his owns a pecan oil processing facility and he he's it for nothing.

Every year my wife and I do plantation tours in South La. This past year all of them-Laura, Evergreen, Houmas House, Nottoway-were all selling it in their gift shops.

I don't get the hype. It is completely stripped of the compounds giving it any sort of pecan flavor. So it's a flavorless veg oil just like many others.

Safflower has a higher smoke point and is way way cheaper. Ditto for grape seed (though it can be hard to find). Re the saturated fat percentages, the differences are tiny: 9% vs 11 vs 12...what difference, dietarily speaking, is a two or three percent difference in an oil used to fry? Esp if you are frying chicken wings, fish, or other foods containing saturated fats? Marketing hype emphasizing a minute difference, IMHO.
I can appreciate paying top dollar for cold pressed oils retaining plenty of flavor (aromatic nut oils like hazelnut or walnut, varietal olive oils), but one deodorized veg oil is pretty much like any other.
