Do you budget for vacations?

I know this is the OT, and vacations are pocket change, but the wife and I are looking over the 2015 Family Budget.
We have never had a budget category for saving for vacations, we've sort of winged it (cash flow + taking out of savings). Just curious how many people specifically put $X in an account earmarked for vacation and how its worked out for you.

We budget for vacations, just like every other expense.

We budget for 2-3 vacations a year and 3-4 long weekends.
You can have a helluva lot better vaca if you've budgeted for it.

That is kind of a huge question. The better questions is how do you budget for how awesome you want your vacation.
If you want to be one of these people that convinces yourself that your cheap cheap vacation was just so awesome when you know it actually sucked, then sure go cheap.
On the real though, if you want a legit family vacation and have a really awesome time, it's gonna be between $7,000 and $10,000

We put away money every check but it's not really marked for anything, when we decide to take a vacation it does come out of there

Doesn't cost that much unless you have to travel a long distance via air.
Yes, I budget a certain portion as a monthly expense than rolls over into a sum month by month.
So I might say $100 a month ends up as vacation budget to give a better idea of realized cash flow rather than just recognized cash flow.
I stay very positive cash flow wise so this is merely an on paper exercise. The reality is I have liquid savings I can tap into whenever I need for a vacation. I do try to estimate the cost of the vacation prior to going on it though.

most of the time for vacations i open a credit card with a nice point sign up bonus and spend the required amount and use the points for vacations. last one i did was a chase business that was spend $5000 in 3 months and get 80,000 pts.

I think you have an extra zero in there

Not really. It goes up every year.

That's what we have done. Wondering if psychologically its better to earmark $X for vacation rather than just throw everything in one account and me be pissy at every little expense at Disney World.

No such thing.

We're currently saving for a Disney vacation for when the kids are a little older. Planning to do it right (resort and all), and it's not something we can save for in just a year.

Disney World
Really can vary a massive amount depending on time of year and accommodations.

ANC, you totally get exactly what i was saying. Let me go back and clarify what I meant. I love the gulf coast. I, however, wont say that a destin family beach vacation is "legit and awesome". They are very fun and my kids love the beach so Im good with it though. I just have never been able to do a serious hardcore BA vacation without it being under $7,000. Disney is so far from cheap or even possible on a cheap budget.

Nope. I plan them well ahead and pay for them ahead of time. By the time I go I'm just paying for food and activities which I charge for points and pay off the following statement.
Currently we have three vacations planned for next year and may add a fourth soon.
