I will be in town the 2nd through the 12th.

Boudin breakfast biscuits Surrey's, sounds good... At one of my places (Giggity's) we do boudin biscuits and gravy. Pretty good stuff so would like to see how someone else does it.

One stint this year in nola I gained 18 pounds in 5 days. The other 3 I was there 4 days and gained 10 pounds each time. I know how to eat. 3 people in our party and I order 9 dishes so I can taste them all. The servers always go you sure you want to order all this its a lot of food.

One dish I have been craving was crawfish pie. Doesn't seem like anyone does this real well in the nola area from my searches on the net. Any suggestions where I could find a good one?

Also if I am looking for a large jambalaya pot in Nola or Baton Rouge where would I get the best pot and best deal.

Thanks to everybody contributing.

Oxtail Pasta dish at Domenica
Pork Belly sandwich at Butcher

This is a damn fine list, though I'n not sure if the oxtail dish is still on the menu at Domenica.

I think sweetbreads from Clancy's should be on the list.

I think someone posted this week that they were having it. We are heading there next weekend so I'll be looking for it.

Thanks man!

I have not been to Clancys or maybe it would make it.
My next new restaurant visit will be between Clancys, La Boca, and Sylvain. Since we have similar tastes (and I think we met at Ave Pub LA craft beer week? Anyhow) which should it be?

I think I remember that.

Those 3 are all fine choices and serve different purposes. I am not a card carrying member of the Clancy's fanboy club. It's very good, but they cater to their regulars and the menu is somewhat antiquated.

I view LaBoca and Sylvain in similar light except La Boca is steakhouse. They both have great/fun atmosphere that anyone would enjoy. The difference is purely cuisine and I don't eat at steakhouses as often so my choice would be Sylvain.

The difference between Clancy's and some of the other "old" new Orleans standards is that its still very good. Antiquated is part of the charm.

I'd have no problem sending you to la boca, but its not somewhere I'd send someone from out of town looking for a nola experience.

for me,
sweetbreads at Clancy's. Hint they have lunch.
go to Jefferson seafood and pick up 5 lbs of crawfish with potatoes and sausage and eat it at the park with a beer.
Get raw oysters somewhere, I like Luke happy hour.
You need to get gumbo somewhere, maybe the gumbo shop or mr. b's.
and a poboy from Guy's.

Since I don't get to eat out at the higher end places too often, here's my cheap eats (read drunk):

5. Orange Beef from 5 Happiness (so good, feel free to trash it because I don't care)
4. #4 with smoked sauce from Bud's Broiler
3. Oyster Po'boy from Liuzza's
2. Shroom and Swiss with caramelized onions and praline bacon at Barcadia
1. surf n turf po'boy at Parkway
