My wife wants one for her birthday...

She'll be half a century old. Any good ideas to make it a bday cake?

Didn't Gambino's invent the doberge cake?

Nope, Beulah Ledner invented the doberge cake. She retired and sold her recipes to Gambinos...then unretired and baked again. If you are near a Rouses, the doberge cakes from its bakeries aren't half bad. I find the Gambinos version way way too sweet. FWIW, the caramel and chocolate combo is best. Last time I bought a Gambinos version, the price was scary high.

I didn't really realize that there were different fillings...

Baums or Gambino's are probably a good options for my locale.

Might just see what they have Monday, since I really don't know what to even select.

Thanks for the heads up on the price. She doesn't have many requests, so I don't mind the few extra dollars on this one.
