We do a gift exchange in my family so we all only buy one really nice gift for each other. There is a soft limit of $50 so I requested some cooking gear but mostly hinted that I wanted a de Buyer Mineral B fry pan preferably the 10 inch one for a little over $50.

Anyway, I open my present last night and lo and behold...

My mom got them from Chefs Catalog for $99. Pretty unreal deal. (I think it might have been a mistake because the price is now back up to $150)

I can't wait to get home and seasoned on a nice gas range. So excited.

Damn that's awesome. Should have asked Santa for one for Christmas.
I may order me one as a gift to myself.

Those are nice pans. I've used some before.

Nice. I would have gone with the left handed version.

This is actual post Christmas brag thread. If I would have only gotten the one it wouldn't have been that big of a deal.

What's your de Buyer looking like these days?

You should post a picture.

I'll take one when I get home. It's darker. Almost a brass color.

Here is mine after a couple months of regular use. You can see the patina it's getting isn't perfectly uniform. The darker areas near the center are where I've been cooking my proteins. Steaks, mostly. It puts a great sear and crust on them. I don't use soaps. To clean, I fill about half full with water, boil, then lightly scrub it over the sink. The bottom is much darker. The method used to boil out the wax on the inside doesn't do much for the bottom. I just heated it on the gas range, and wiped it with a bar towel. I get a little more residue off each time I use it.

That's interesting, I thought it would be darker.

Looks good though.

It will be. It's hardly 4 months old.
