Question for those who meal prep for an entire week

I'm considering starting this as a new year resolution to keep me from eating shite throughout the week and to accelerate my workouts.
For those who meal prep and put a weeks worth of food into plastic containers, how often do you buy groceries? Every week? Once a month? Every two weeks? What's the best way to go about this?
Also, how much of a difference do you see from doing this?

every week, I try to plan and cook for 2-3 days at a time, Just to keep changing up what I am eating. I have seen a big difference both in fitness and $$. there are some really good resources out there to help you plan, just gott google and try stuff out.

Shop every week.
If I don't plan the week. I fail.
Been failing a lot too.

On average, how much do you usually spend? Thanks for the tips!

Every week. Just as meal prep is part of your routine you tend to be more succesful when shopping is also a part of that routine.

This. I have been failing a lot the past few months. Only buy what you need because if not you will prolly eat it.
Also if you are cooking for a family for dinner, atleast plan that out and stick to it.
As far as what you are going to spend, that depends on taste. I eat a lot of fish and shrimp which cost more oer pound of meat compared to chicken. On average you can get away with 50-70 if its just you and you watch we you are cooking cost wise.

Once a week.
I basically eat alot of the same foods every week.
I cut up an apple the day before I eat it. I portion out 5 days worth of baby carrotts that I eat with hummus. Makes 5 salads. Cut up a couple cucumbers. Peel and portion out 5 days worth of grapes. Then, I have stuff at my office if I am not away from my desk.

I plan my meals quite successfully every week, but I'm a foodie so it's not much of a chore for me as it would be for others who doesn't enjoy cooking. Typically, I cook two meals on Sundays. I have a family of four so what I do might not work for you. Usually some type of beans (2 lbs worth) and some type of new dish I would like to try. Those two meals alone produces enough food for most of the week. Sometimes I end up freezing the left over beans and cooking once more during the week just to break things up. It's usually something quick like lasagna, spaghetti, meatloaf and potatoes, smothered chicken with rice and gravy, etc. You get the idea. By the time we make it to the weekend we're eating leftovers, sandwiches, or we make a breakfast style brunch.
If you want to reduce eating out, you must plan ahead. Planning ahead makes it a lot easier to accomplish your goal.

Eat gruel. Gruel sandwiches, gruel omelettes...nothing but gruel!

My protien I buy about once every two weeks because it stays in my freezer (chicken, shrimp, turkey, pork). I'll buy beans and uncooked pasta in bulk and only need to restock every month or so. The only weekly item I buy is potaotes.
In fitness or finances? In fitness - as much as you put into it. If you meal prep everything with a shite ton of butter everytime, you won't see much.

I can drop an inch of my waist in 2 weeks this way, with hard cardio 6 days a weeks. It works but I get sick of turkey and chicken, I can cook a little but if you can cook I bet it would be easier.

Do major non-perishable stock up on a monthly basis - Super One or Wal-Mart. Replenish food items on a weekly basis at the local supermarket. Costs a little more, but not nearly the hassle of doing Wal-Mart all the time. I really try not to do Wal-Mart more than monthly, if even that.
Upside, save a shite pile of money that would otherwise be spent eating out or on fast food. If you're not careful, you might even get healthier as well.

Every week, the crock pot is your friend

Buy groceries once a week, occasionally twice if I want additional fresh vegetables.
Usually end up getting 18-36 eggs, 2-3 half gallons of milk, 10-12 chicken breasts, fish filets, 3 bunches of broccoli, 3 heads of cauliflower, 6-8 sweet potatoes, mixed greens, etc.
Significant difference. If you know you have fresh, healthy food already made at a moments notice, you're less inclined to go and eat out. That is my experience.
I also keep fresh fruit and hard boiled eggs on hand for snacks. You don't want to rely on fruits exclusively to snack on because they have lots of sugar. Nuts are good to keep around too, like roasted almonds. If you can eat tomatoes, carrot sticks and celery, I'd keep those around to snack on as well.
Also, you should be drinking at least a gallon of water a day. That in itself can do amazing things to your body.

I've been doing it since I started working, it's real easy to do. I'll go grocery shopping basically twice a month, maybe three in order to keep my vegetables fresh. I'll spend anywhere from 50-80 on each of those trips and this will take care of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. You obviously spend a lot less money and if you shop right, you're eating a lot healthier.

there is one easy thing you can do that makes a huge difference..go to lowes or the depot and get a good zero-degree chest freezer, and a foodsaver vacuum sealer.
being able to freeze quickly & without freezer burn makes a big difference in shelf life and flavor of proteins. then, by in bulk and portion/freeze. also you can cook a big pot of something (gumbo, red sauce, soup, whatever) and potion/freeze for later
the freezer on top your fridge is only good for ice cream, and a chest freezer will freeze faster and colder
