I mean I just dont get why this guy is considered a good singer (or even great/legendary by some).

It seems like hes getting a lot of credit for just outliving all the other crooners. When Frank and Dean were alive this guy wouldn't have been mentioned in the same breath with the greats.

He just sounds like he's talking, without much emotion, and the melody is just incidental. He's no good imo. I don't get it.

Have you listened to his new album with Lady GaGa? I was quite surprised he still had decent pipes at his age.

I do still think GaGa should do a collab with Frankie Valli.

Sinatch>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Tony Bennett and everyone else.

I'm not a big Bennett fan to begin with.

I watched the tv special. It is what prompted this thread.

This is kind of what I am saying. He's getting all kinds of credit for just not dying yet. His actual singing has never been very good.

He's been an "A" lister for as long as I can remember. In the 70s he was always mentioned in the same breath as Sinatra, Dean Martin, Paul Anka, Robert Goulet, and Sammy Davis, Jr. as far as the Great American Songbook is concerned. While you can have a legitimate argument about how good he is compared to the others, I don't think there is any doubt that he belongs in the same level of discussion.

Sinatra was a lot more than just a crooner. Also considered the best jazz singer ever.

Bennett is 88 years old for chrissake. The guy used to have phenomenal pipes and still isn't bad for his age. And he was always a great stylist.

while I admire his longevity, I don't care for the music.

Yeah, why won't he fricking die already?

Seriously, people? TB ABSOLUTELY belongs (and HAS belonged) in the same company as Sinatra and Martin. He's one of two singers that induce emotions in my wife so strong that she actually cries when she hears him (Boz Scaggs is the other). Sure, he became hipster cool in the mid-90's and i'll admit that that pushed me away from him. But he'll always be considered a master of the American Songbook and perhaps the quintessential Italian-American crooner.
