Running a few gas lines and hook it up? Is that about it? This terrible electric has got to go

I'm in the process of doing the same. Already had the gas line run, but I will have to convert to a 110 outlet since the electric uses 220 right now.

The 220 can easily be converted to a 110, gas drop can be easy or hard depending on current location of the gas...

You should check out an induction cooktop before going through all that.

I'm guessing it's better than electric but not as fantastic as gas?

This.

I had a pro induction hob at my old house (Thermador) and at my current house have a DCS pro gas. Hard pressed, I have a hard time picking a favorite. I like the fact that I can use any material cooking vessel on the gas and am limited to magnetics with the induction - though I do prefer SS or iron for the most part, so that doesn't really make much of a difference to me.

The induction is sweet in that the cooking surfaces don't get crazy hot (just hot to the touch from the pan) and cleaning is incredibly easy. Response with the induction is rapid and control is very fine, just as with the gas cooktop I have.

I don't know that I would go through the expense of running gas to the spot if it wasn't already there and in that case just go with a pro induction hob.
