On the east coast, it's been Christmas for an hour. And two families of police officers there are making funeral plans. They could be having fun, getting ready for bed, planning for the day ahead. But they aren't.

Christmas will never be the same for them. Every year, snow and mistletoe and Christmas trees will be reminders of heartache and loss. The magic of this season, and the promise it holds for so many, has been killed, along with their innocent and deeply loved fathers, husbands and friends. It's a travesty, an outrage, and it does, genuinely, make my heart ache.

I wish all of you the very best of Christmases, and will do everything I can to relish the blessings and fortune I've had this year, and throughout my life. I hope you'll do the same.

I play a character here. The board is entertainment for me, and I enjoy it. Posters who know me better know that I'm not at all the person I have fun portraying here. But I can't play that character now.

This situation has brought me to tears several times today, and the loss of a parent is particularly meaningful to me. I felt compelled to express my feelings on this.

Great post. Truly a shame and tragic. I don't think people take the time to think about the impact of their emotional actions. One choice and action that takes seconds can cause misery for many for the rest of their lives.

Count your blessings my friends and tell everyone what they mean to you. We are the persons that we are today because of them in our lives. That all can change in a second.

Merry Christmas FT and the rest of the Poli board

Nice post.

There would have been a third cop in your Christmas list had Anthonio been able to work the safety.

Thin line between heroes and martyrs.

Great post.

I just fear for what we've become as a society.

You know the saying...... Be careful what you wish for.

In this case, thousands wished for dead cops. They got it.

Disturbing, to say the least.

It's a sad thing indeed when an Ideology brings a human to the point that he wants to kill another human being. It reminds you how black the human heart can be. And then to have some actually celebrate it, really shakes your faith. Stepping back from excess is a sign of humility and humanity, not weakness.

Christmas is a good time to step things back and question your assumptions and where they lead. It's a good exercise for every one of us. Restrain thy ego.

Merry Christmas. God bless these families in their time of sorrow.
