I think the first round of Bush tax cuts were 100% warranted. I do not think the second round was. His chief economic advisor is on record opposing them, but Bush pushed them through anyway and the idiot GOP sees tax cuts and checks the yes box without further thought.

I do agree the biggest problem is the current GOP fighting tooth and nail and even willing to shut down the government to keep preventing their expiration as even Bush intended.

I'm just tired of it. The current GOP isn't reasonable or intelligent and just doesn't seem to care how bad their policies are concerning taxes.

In a short answer to raise revenue. Of course the real reason is because make them high enough and people will not buy s much. That doesn't have a big impact on the economy and probably actually has a positive if anything impact because people will be more productive and healthy and earn more and pay more, at least in the case of tobacco and alcohol...I have no idea why a pack of playing cards is taxed other than to raise money...

Disagree. Higher taxes on earned income means consumers have less money to spend on goods and services. That means businesses see their income fall and their ability to invest/expand is limited.

How do consumer(s) (notice the plural form) have less money to spend? The individual consumer who paid the tax does have less expendable income....but his neighbor who got a job with a government contractor as an accountant adding up the tally for the taxes his buddy remitted now has more money to buy shite with. Businesses will not notice who is buying their shite, only that it is being sold. In fact the erroneous flip side of this argument that taxes remove money permanently from the economy is that taxes can spur increased sales because more people have the money to but things like cars and refrigerators because the government took some money form someone who owned a refrigerator and gave it to someone who didn't.

This premise that taxes stall the economy is simply bogus and the fact that the only idea the GOP has had In my lifetime was to cut taxes to spur the economy can only mean the GOP is made up of morons are there is an underlying reason for this obsession. It is, of course, the latter, and occasionally one of them will voice this by suggesting that one or another program is allowed to die due to lack of funding.

It's all relative. The Dems are more fiscally responsible right now because they aren't the ones who put in ludicrous tax cuts while we have an entitlement spending problem neither party will address, and actually want more.

Whoa. ACA/Obamacare alone makes the Dems the least fiscally responsible party.

- Just to make the 10 year numbers "work" for the CBO estimates, it collected taxes for 10 years and only measured a benefit for 6 years. That alone makes it fiscally irresponsible.

- "You have to vote yes to see what is actually inside the bill" which is a paraphrase from Pelosi. Before passing, the bill would have a large impact on healthcare, the future budgets and fiscal policy yet it was rammed through Congress with minimal debate?

- The projected impact of Obama's EO with regard to immigration. Those who were in the US illegal will be grated amnesty will also be covered under ACA, ballooning the cost.
