Winchester Model 70 Scope Mount
Posted by PrettyLights on 12/24/14 at 12:05 pm00
Can anyone recommend a good base and ring set for my Model 70 Featherweight in .308? I am used to hunting iron sights. I plan on using a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10 x 40.

Leupold Dual dovetail? What kind of scope are you running?

Nice gun, PL. I've tried a lot of different bases and rings through the years, but now I only use a Weaver base (either a 1 or 2 piece) and Burris Signature Z rings (the ones w/ the plastic insert). As long as you're using a scope w/ an objective diameter of 40 mm or less, you should be ok w/ med height rings. Using the Signature rings will minimize the risk of marring your scope and also makes lapping the rings unncessary. Good luck!
