HOU is already the #2 D in the league with D12 missing all of that time. Now they add Smith AND Brewer. It won't be easy at all to score on the Rockets come playoff time, at all.

But smith is a player that relies a lot on raw athleticism. And he has lost a step. When many players get to that point in their careers, they redefine their game. The only problem with smith is that the rest of his skill set is mediocre. I too made excuses for smith. But after awhile I couldn't excuse poor shooting, average defense, and only 1 or 2 'athletic' plays per game.

3. Rockets are first round fodder like every other year.

if the rockets don't make it out of the first round something drastic has to change. they have too much talent to be a first round exit

Smith made a good choice for him, but I kind of think Miami wouldve maximized his output and put Miami back in the mix, The NBA needs more East teams to be relevant.

Miami at this point is an elite franchise in the NBA. With the Lakers and Celtics down, having the Heat relevant, but not necessarily finalists would be good for the NBA.

Move doesn't move the meter for me either way when it comes to this team. It sucks Houston got a flyer on him so cheap, but I don't think any team in the NBA would claim Josh Smith puts them into elite territory. It's similar to the Mavs deal. Why fix what isn't broken? Houston already has a phenomenal defense and they just added an inefficient scorer. Dallas already has a phenomenal offense and they just added a ball dominant guard. Sexy on paper. I'm not bashing either move, especially Houston, for the record. You pretty much have to take a gamble on smith at that price. It just honestly doesn't make me crap my pants like Bosh to Houston would have. They still aren't winning a title and Vegas reflects that.

Here's the thing-both teams have great front offices. Dallas is immediately better prepared for playoff basketball. With every team in the west having a very good point guard, Dallas finally has a PG who at least contain the Lillards,Currys,Pauls,Conleys,Parkers and Westbrooks of the world.

The PnR is also less lethal with the Rondo-Chandler combo snuffing that out.

Houston gets a weak side help stud that can protect the rim in a pinch while also acquiring a guy who can man up on the Kawhi,KD,Blake,Z-Bo,Dirk,LaMarcus and AD. He can also take the slower 4s off the dribble.

With Houston banning long 2s as an organizational mantra, Smith could very well put them over.

As far as Vegas odds, lets see what happens after about 20 games to gel and check with the odds, not that any team should really be favored at the moment.
