I would take Dalton over Cam - Newton is not an nfl-caliber QB.

Brees is unbelievably frustrating - he looked like 09 Brees vs Pitt, and then threw a pick on a curl route when we had an eternity to mount a game winning drive.

Honestly, they are both average.

I think the delusion is on both sides actually. Cam has the talent, size, speed, and arm to be something really special in the NFL. The second best player on the Panthers' offense is Greg fricking Olsen right now. If he gets the right weapons coupled with a decent defense, he could win a super bowl or two I think.

Brees is one of the all time greats, this is undeniable. But the fact is he will be in the twighlight of his career within the next 4-5 years (possibly sooner)...his prime is almost behind him.

ETA: I still wouldn't even consider trading Brees for Cam right now... But in 2-3 years... Maybe.

They would all say they want Cam Newton.....Little known secret is that I lurk on the Huddle and they complain so much about Cam it is ridiculous. Soooo if you are really looking for accurate results just check out their threads from week 1-15

They won't win shite with Newton at QB.

I don't care if he doesn't have a lot of talent around him. He hasn't progressed as a quarterback in this league. He's actually gotten worse.

Maybe the worst troll attempt I've ever seen on TD.

Outside of the speed aspect, Ryan Leaf & Jamarcus Russell had those other aspects as well. Didn't mean a damn thing. Unless Cam becomes smarter in the pocket, he will never be an elite passer. He is more Jay Cutler like in terms of his demeanor which is not a positive.

Good lord man, did you not see how good the Panthers were defensively last season yet it didn't mean a damn thing because Cam sucks as a passer?

Oh, for sure but we bitched about Brees in the midst of his prime... The important part is when it really comes down to it, Cam is their guy.... Just as Brees is our guy.

Many NFL team fan bases and organizations aren't so sure that their current QB is their guy.

Eagles
Titans
Texans
Bucs
Browns
Jets
Vikings
Bears
Cardinals
Rams
Raiders
Bills
Jaguars
Redskins

Yeah, he was good enough to cruise to a division title and kick our arse.

On the back of a really good defense. Newton's poor play is why the Panthers lost at home to the 49ers in the playoffs. Without that defense, there is no division title for the Panthers in 2013. By the way, where was this thread when Cam had an awful 7-8 game stretch this season?

Dude, Newton's PASSING numbers are considerably better than Brees's passing numbers in his first 4-5 NFL seasons. And Brees had Ladanian Tomlinson.

I'm not even accounting for the rushing numbers.

You also forget the passing numbers now vs. early 2000 are vastly different

Right... There's plenty of ways you can spin the numbers angle. Point is Cam is still a very promising young QB in the NFL... As much as most of you hate to admit it... Yeah he gets hit a lot but Brees has missed more games due to injury at that point in the career... So the "he will get hurt" angle is weak too.

Yeah, Cam has blown some game big games... So has every elite QB ever... (Except Montana)

Numbers can be misleading. Why don't you look at the Panthers offensive rankings under Cam then look up the Chargers offensive rankings under Brees.

Newton has a combo of Deangelo Williams & Jonathan Steward. Before this season, he had Steve Smith as a receiver & Greg Olsen as TE. This year Smith was replaced with Kelvin Benjamin.

While you are focusing on numbers & stats, things that don't show up in stats, are the signs that Cam doesn't & may not ever get it as a passer. He misses entirely too many easy reads as well as big plays downfield because he is too impatient inside the pocket. As long he can run, he will feel he doesn't have be a great passer. Not only does that stunt his ability to grow mentally but those hits on him to breakdown physically much quicker than a pocket passer. Steve Young has given really good insight in the problems with the new age running QB.

LINK

If anyone knows what it takes to be successful being a pocket passer with the ability to run, it would be Steve Young. The things Young describes as what it takes to win from the pocket, aren't the things you see in Newton's game. It's only going to get worse as the injuries for him mount.

Hugo.... Cam Newton will not win a superbowl in Carolina. He doesnt have the chest to win a superbowl period. Ya know why??? Bc to win a superbowl it takes at least 46 men who are all willing to work towards the unanimous goal. So who really cares if Carolina wins the division. That team is weak minded (ours might be at the moment), but how dare you disrespect the greatest Saint. Now some of you may call me a Brees defender or whatever, but i'll tell you one final thing, statistically Cam newton is regressing every season and would not fit this offense or coach Payton's playstyle, but continue to say its all one man Drew Brees fault.

Brees got hurt on a freak injury where he tried to recover a fumble. Cam takes a pounding week after week. QB's take enough as is in the pocket. You throw in scrambles & designed runs then you have a quarterback who is taking a pounding. QB's don't wear the same padding that RB's do in order to be able to throw the ball. Something is wrong if you don't understand that those hits take their toll & have an effect on a QB's mechanics. Bad mechanics=shite throws
