Cdaniel,
I'm happy for you. I think you did the best thing by picking up the gun yourself. I wish I could recommend a gunsmith to you. I've not had any handgun work done by Clark's but they did a trigger job for me on a 10/22 and have done two trigger jobs for my cousin. Their work is good, but their prices are not inexpensive. Be sure and keep us updated w/ the project.

but most likely the most costly too, I'd imagine.
Correct. But how many times is this particular chain of events going to happen to you in your lifetime? Buy once, cry once.

Thanks bro.
Going to the Slidell gun show this weekend to hopefully get a new slide safety and the sear spring that's only in Gold Cup models.
Should be able to put it all together with those two pieces and then go run a few rounds through it.
Also... Ran the serial # on Colt's website... It's a 1974 model. 2 years older than I am.

I hope it's soon in a condition to be fired again.

So who's going to refinish it and do the metal work?

Same guy. I appreciate your input and advice on the place you recommended. The same thing that pushed me to drive all day just to go get it, instead of having it shipped to me, is the same thing that pushed me to try to find someone local to repair, refinish & reassemble.
I'd be unbelievably heartbroken if something should happen in shipping it to or from the place you recommended. I don't doubt their work in the least bit. Your DE shows it's quality. Just would rather keep it local, know what I mean? This gun is more valuable to me than any UPS or FedEx insurance payout could ever be should it get lost somehow.

I completely respect what you're doing and they way you are going about it. You get the whole sentimental aspects of this project and it shows. I hope it turns out exactly like you hope and get to enjoy the process as much as the end results.

I'll be sure to post pics once I get it.

Wow! Great story. Hope you have many Years of enjoyment from the Colt.
I have an old Colt 38 revolver from my grandfather that I prize very highly.
Thanks for posting.

That looks great! Congrats.
I think you have to keep the ivory grips on it, just because.

Very good looking gun man. You're a lucky man to get it back. Awesome story too.
