Or has the black community wrongly assumed that because there's a black president, that now is the time to pursue perceived grievances?

Um, the black community is not one single collective that has one uniform opinion.

He's only devisive to people who don't agree with the above statement.

I believe in individualism... except for when I'm trying to label those who oppose me.

Not any more than any other president. He spews the Democrat party mantra.

There's nothing wrong with the Tea Party.

example: Michele Bachmann

An unfortunately large percentage of blacks can't step out of their self-inflicted victimization to strive to improve their own lives, and the president reaffirms to that group that it's not their fault, but that they were failed by the system.

Not really, but I do think they're more vocal with a black man in The White House. It'll change with Hillary.

Not divisive at all.

ABC / Washington Post Poll from Sept 2014:
quote:

In general assessments, moreover, Americans by a 17-point margin say Obama has done more to divide than to unite the country, a rating worse than George W. Bush’s early in his poorly rated second term – and one that’s deteriorated among Obama’s supporters as well as among his critics.

Obamas on Race: We've Been Treated Like the Help

Obama: Police who arrested professor 'acted stupidly':
quote:

"I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played," Obama said Wednesday night while taking questions after a White House news conference.

Cambridge authorities dropped disorderly conduct charges against Henry Louis Gates Jr. on Tuesday.

Obama defended Gates on Wednesday night, while admitting that he may be "a little biased," because Gates is a friend.

"But I think it's fair to say, No. 1, any of us would be pretty angry; No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, No. 3 ... that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately."

The incident, Obama said, shows "how race remains a factor in this society."

Yeah, the 5 or 10% that doesn't vote in lockstep really establishes a broad diversity of opinion.

Of course not - it's only about 90%.

such diversity should be copied by the other demographics.
