Are the Saints and fans overrating how good this team has been?

Since the Super Bowl, we have won the NFC South just once, won only 2 playoff games and missed the post-season twice. It doesn't scream dominance or dynasty to me, but for some reason, we seem to think that it's been just that. I include myself in that. What do y'all think?

Do you know what "delusional" means?

Overrating your own team isn't delusion.

and the 2011 team may have been better.

I don't anyone thinks this year was good, but we've been pretty damn good from 2009-this year.

When you consider the dumpster fire the franchise was prior to Payton and Brees arriving, consistent 8-8 seasons should be considered a dynasty.

The run from 2009-2011 was incredible.

13-3
11-5
13-3

How many teams accomplish runs like that, now that the NFL has had some much parity? The Patriots? Who else? And I'd like to include 2013 in there as well, considering the bounty year shouldn't count (frick you Goodell)

For fans of a team that watched shite teams to mediocre their whole lives, we never thought we'd see that kind of success. 3 straight years of playoffs, a Superbowl win, and another team in 2011 that was arguably the better than the Superbowl team. I don't think anyone is being delusional by saying the Saints had become a dominant team, and one of the best in the league. Expectations were at all time high for this season based on what we had become accustomed to, a winning culture. That's why this season has been the most disappointing in the teams history, because of the expectations which were acceptable.

Only bad years were 12(for obvious reasons) and this year.

Teams have a bad year every once in a while.

It hasn't been the same team personnel wise for some time now. People think we should start rebuilding, but we have about 5 people from 2009 left on the team. This team is the rebuild.

Very insightful and accurate comment.

The 2014 Saints ARE THE RE-BUILD from the 2009 Saints.

The next question is: Has the Re-build been a success?

If it were successful re-build, it seems to me that there would not be so many folks calling for another re-build. Some may conclude that THIS re-build has been a failure.

I do think the Super Bowl was totally over-rated by the franchise and many fans. Can you name one other one-SB-win team that has a huge statue of their owner holding their ONE LOMBARDI TROPHY outside the entrance of their stadium?

It has been the best run in the history of the team. Have there been better runs by other teams, yes. However the Saints have been one of the better teams in the league recently and it sure felt a lot better that what it was like before.

When you think about the losses this team had in the beginning of the year, they were in all but the Dallas game. They were competitive and even had leads very late in games.

The end of the year, with the blowout losses to the Panthers and then how they imploded against Atlanta and lost five straight road games...that's the really puzzling part.

That is one thing I thought I'd never see from a Sean Payton coached team. I never thought I'd see Drew Brees have such an off season, either. His mistakes would come at the worst times.

What does all this mean? I don't really know. I can't comprehend how the season ended considering the coach and QB this team has as assets.

Where do they go from here? They have to either restructure or let go some key players like Jahri Evans, Marques Colston, Ben Grubbs, Drew Brees (there is no way they let Brees go anywhere, but he has to restructure), and Cam Jordan. The offensive line needs to be bolstered in the middle and the cornerbacks need an infusion of talent, probably via free agency.

The roster won't be dramatically different. We're going to battle with most of these guys again next year.

Wgaf???? I can name plenty teams who have never won a fricking super bowl and would fap to the thought of having a statue of the owner holding the Lombardi after winning it of course. Super bowl wins are never over rated. GTFO with that stupid shite.

Yes other teams might fap to it, in their minds, but can you name one other team in the league that actually did it?

Your question doesn't make sense.

It has more to do with the fact that his time with the Saints is running out. It's a tribute to Benson.

We also have a statue with the blocked punt from Atlanta...

Does this really bother people?

If you haven't noticed, New Orleans and their people are a prideful bunch. 42 years to win the biggest thing in the NFL is a VERY long time, especially considering how many years of futility this team has had it is a big accomplishment.

Lets not also add onto the fact that 4 years prior we weren't even sure if the team would ever make its way back to this city.
