Why is that? And I want to know what buyout clauses he has in there and what allowances are in it for increase in pay. Eight years is a long contract.

Well according his contract he signed last year a day before the MNC, if he leaves prior to his contract ending he must buyout his Assistant coaches contracts as well as his own. So that's an additional 1.5 million he'd owe.

As these contracts get larger & larger their buyouts are becoming much more lucrative to ensure coaches wouldn't high tail it & run after 2 years. Every offseason with Tubs we sat & waited to see if he was really going to leave us. If Malzahn proves his worth in the next coming years we'll put a big price on his head. Right now he's fine with where he's at, but if makes it tothe playoffs & wins some SECCs then we will have to pony up, but it will go both ways.

I can promise you they aren't getting a pay raise like his. That contract is crazy considering how poorly their athletic department does.
