I've heard they've been cracking down on the regulations this year. Towards the end of last year, federal wardens came in and made everyone leave the boat launch until 4 and messed up the system in place. Previously, boaters would line up in a first come first served basis and wouldn't launch until 4. Any update on how it's being handled this year?

Also I heard they have been checking boaters safety for everyone on board (not just the driver) and requiring any groups where everyone didn't have a card could not use their motors and had to push pole/paddle in.

how has the hunting been this season? Any success reports? 'll be hunting out there some time over the holidays regardless, but I'd like to know what to expect.

Wait, you're upset that they're enforcing the law?

May need to venture over to LASportsman

No, I'm not upset at all. I'm just looking to get a report on regulations this year since I heard there were changes and any hunting reports.

I think the "no one can be in the refuge before 4" law should be enforced as it was previously: not allowing anyone to launch until 4. Now you have people hauling arse down 27 and passing around curves with boats and trailers. And more arguments on who got their first. Previously it was form a simple line and wait your turn.

So, everyone had to drive around until 4 and then race to the boat launch? That sounds like a safe idea.

On a related note, I learned to hunt out there back in the early 80's while in HS. Couple of my friends and I would drive out there every Fri and Sat of the season, and during Christmas break, we'd hit it on Wednesdays too. Started out walking in from the road and then got permission to use my Dad's boat. Some fun times and great hunts out there, but a lot of work also. Hauling in decoys everytime and traversing that marsh....No way I'd survive now.

Exactly, the Feds came in and threatened tickets and everyone scattered

Some went N, some went S, and everyone hauled arse back at 4, major clusterf**k
