Kawhi Leonard is out for an unknown amount of time with a hand injury.

quote:

Leonard told the San Antonio Express-News last week that it "isn't as bad as it sounds" and he should be back "soon."

Popovich didn't agree with that assessment.

"I don't think that's accurate," Popovich said of the reigning NBA Finals MVP. "He got another injection yesterday. One of the doctors said he's been doing hands for 40 years and it's the first time he's ever seen this injury. It's a little bit unique."

LINK

They're 4-6 in their last 10, they've had an average Strength of Schedule so far and it will get harder, and we could face them twice without Kawhi since we play them twice in the next 8 days.

They are only 2 games ahead of us in the loss column at 18-11. I know people are afraid to count them out, but they're looking kind of vulnerable.

I was wondering the same thing. I'd say there a Tony Parker Hamstring/ankle injury away from disaster.

I know he is banged up right now too. these next 2 games against them will be huge.

At some point, there age WILL catch up to them. We might be wrong 8 times before it does, but eventually...

From Lowe's piece today on the Spurs

quote:

These teams are really hoping someone else stumbles, but even the no. 7 seed Spurs are on a 50-win pace despite a hail of injuries and Gregg Popovich (smartly) throwing away regular-season games in the name of long-term health

I agree completely on the resting part and injuries. Someone tweeted out that Duncan, Manu, et al already have missed more games or "rest" this season than all of last season.

If the Pels are still within striking distance after the Rodeo trip, it could get very interesting.

I would imagine Pop would change his resting routine if things started getting too tight down the stretch. The Pels are just going to have to beat enough top teams to make it.

I've come to learn that until the core retires, we can never count out the Spurs.

That's exactly what will happen. He doesn't care right now. Come All-Star game time, they will do what they always do: win and get in.

It is going to be very tough.

Yes it will be. And we might not do it. But think of it this way. Every night, no matter who we play, we have a legitimate chance of winning. Thats fun! This season will be a fun one till its over.

No, they're playing possum again. Remember last year around this time when people were worried with the record against elite teams.

Dallas is still the team to catch. I honestly think the trade is going to hurt them over the course of the season.

If they can get him back by January, they may be fine. The schedule for January and February looks a bit light for them. It's March and April where it's tougher.

Depends how long Kawhi is out. Resting the old 3 hasn't made a huge difference bc even when they're benched the Spurs have still played well. However benching the old 3 AND kawhi out has hurt the Spurs, so that could help us a lot

Then why do we have to catch anybody?

Just stay in that 8 spot.

no. unless their old guys are really hurting and pops is having to sit them out of necessity, they will be ready to go for the final stretch and win as many games as necessary to make the playoffs. pops ain't no dummy

If we beat who we're supposed to beat it's really going to come down to April

@LAL
@SAC
@POR (back to back)
GS
@MEM (back to back)
PHX
@HOU
@MIN (back to back)
SAS

The way we've played the Kings I only see 2 gimmes in this stretch. If 4-5 or 6-3 in this stretch is the difference between making the playoffs and not, it's going to be tough.

mavs fans on the MSB seem to think i'm trolling but I think it's possible they could drop and be on the outside looking in if we can step up our game with the easier schedule coming up. their's only gets harder and i'm not sure the rondo trade did them any favors. definitely hurt them depth wise and i'm not sold on rondo making them that much better to compensate for it

If it comes down to april we hopefully will have EG back and that will leave us with a pretty solid 2nd unit. we should be hitting on all cylinders then and should be in pretty good (:eg:) shape
