This is the reason why I don't go to downtown BR. Every time I see photos from there it looks like a Douche-a-palooza of AP trash.

Red Star is generally decent. You're more likely to run into hipsters instead of douchebags.
I'm starting to warm up to the Brickyard South. It's a dive that has cheap beers. They've got Founder's All Day IPA on draft. The crowd there kind of reminds me what Port Royal used to be like years ago -- low key service industry folks who just want to drink, hang out and shoot pool.

Yep, by the Belle of Baton Rouge. It's been a bunch of different places over the years. They re-opened it in the summer and Lil Jon was the first entertainer.

BR for being a college town sure does have its share of cheesy/pretensious people.

BR isn't a college town....the majority of college towns aren't filled with the trash that BR is as well.

Yes it is. LSU is a big part of it. It definitely is a college town. It has a city proper population of less than 250,000. That's not a mid size city at all.
