Every year we always say, we NEED to be in the playoffs because with Brees at the helm we always have a shot.

To me, by the time of the detroit game, this team did not look like the teams of the past.

Couldn't close out, couldn't protect, couldn't get pressure on QBs, couldn't avoid costly mistakes, etc.

That is 2014 in a nutshell.

With a win, we pretty much have a >50% chance of going to the playoffs 8-8. With a loss, we pretty much locked ourselves to somewhere around 8-15.

In terms of long-term success, we needed a top pick to have a better shot at hitting a better player or a potential "great" player. Of course we can miss badly, but how do many of you feel now about missing the playoffs? Just 4-5 weeks ago a lot of us were saying win it out

I was ready for this season to end weeks ago.

We have no shot to do anything in the playoffs. Only team we could maybe beat is Arizona, and that is only because Joe Blow is playing QB.

Better draft pick > demolished in the playoffs and picking at 20 or so

Just think.. all we had to do is win ONE of those home games during that home game stretch we had.... but nope.. lose 5 in a row

I wouldn't have been happy either way. I didn't want to make the playoffs.

Absolutely. If anything now that it's over, I'm happier we're out. I'd be too depressed had we been bounced one and done in the playoffs.

+1

The exact same glaring problems that plagued this team the entire season seemed to show up yesterday. I thought it was fitting.

I was ready for the full tank before the Bears game. Then after the Bears game, I was a little excited about smacking Atlanta down and going to the playoffs because anything can happen.

But after the first couple of possessions yesterday, I was ready for us to take the L and the season to be over with. This team is bad and had no business going to the playoffs getting drummed by a legit team.

The high pick is good enough for me.

we had a few chances to build on something and pull things together and make a run, the Steelers win probably being the last.

unfortunately we have no consistency and couldnt keep it together.

I wouldn't say happy either way...

Before the season started I thought we were top 3 in the NFC good(GB and SEA).

When the season started that idea was removed completely by the end of the Dallas game.

I think everyone knew by then we had problems that may not be able to be corrected during the season...but hoped to turn it around anyway.

By the ATL game...I still hoped to make the playoffs even though I had openly rooted for tanking.

Bottom line is we needed change and the Playoffs in any way shape or form may have sugarcoated the season in the FO's mind and may not have brought the hammer this team desperately needs.

Not happy...this is a pretty bad spot to be in as a franchise. Either the window has closed and we are all in denial...or we need to make this off season count before the window closes on the SP/Drew era...time is almost out.

pretty much.

I couldn't justify it any other way. Losing all of those games at home was the biggest shock.

some how if the Saints win @ Tampa next week, they will have won more road games this year than home games.

I don't even think the Saints lost 5 in a row in at home 1999... and that year was pretty miserable.

Anytime you have a chance to win your division you should want that accomplishment. That said, I just want the off season to get started to take the sting of this very disappointing season away.

I wanted the pick but when it came down to it I didn't want to lose to those assholes. If it was the same scenario but against the (5-9)Bucs I would've had no problem with shitting the bed yesterday.

I think I kinda turned a little bit sour after the Carolina loss in Carolina, LAST YEAR...up until that point, I honestly believed in everything the team did and said, hook line and sinker. But they had so many opportunities last year to just take the whole thing over and be the boss, and they bumbled and squandered it all away, again and again. So when they did the same exact thing this season, I viewed it as a continuation into this year and I wasn't really surprised.

For me the boat on this year sailed with the Carolina loss in the Dome. So obvious there was no way they were going to go anywhere after that, even with help from other people. It reminded me so much of the end of last year where they just needed to win ONE game, on the road, just one, ANY one, and they kept dropping games and they couldn't get it done. I don't care what people say. Something is wrong with Payton and this team, these last 2-3 seasons.

I'd prefer to be in the playoffs, 7-9 or 8-8 or 16-0

They better tank next Sunday though. If they come out with BS "we are setting the tone for next year" crap when half these mofo's won't be here and screw up a higher draft choice than I'll be more pissed.

After the 2011 season Payton checked out, but never checked back in.

I kept saying I was over this team but I kept watching and cheering and hoping they'd win every week

By the time they called the Graham TD a fumble, I turned off the TV and hoped they would finish getting blown out yesterday and next week. Not just for the draft pick, but I think this team really needs to end the season getting their asses beat in an embarrassing fashion to have any hopes of half these guys waking up, coaches included. Whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen, but going to the playoffs and getting beaten by 20 at home again would have served no purpose

I was over this team following the Ravens game and then following the Panthers debacle I was full on team tank. This team just never showed me anything to play if "if we can just get in...." game. Say I'm a bad fan, but to me high draft picks our are best bet to someone right the ship and make one last run with the current core/regime.

I even turned the game off yesterday following the botched snap, this team just wasn't worth my anger. If they don't give a shite, I'm not going to either.
