Sorry if germans.

I wonder if his free agency is going to be just about the money?

ahh this guy... so it should be about winning as long as he's making millions... who cares about that other 15 million of guaranteed dollars.

I don't think this is a bad way to go at all.

Shitty teams can often pony up more guaranteed money to land a FA, while winning teams usually can't match those deals. The question is how much does winning mean to the player? To say he should just get as much money as possible is not a good way of thinking. To say that he should give up several million to play for a winner is also poor thinking. But what if the Raiders offer him $35 million guaranteed and the Colts offer him $34 million guaranteed? He'd be crazy not to take the Colts offer in that instance, even though it's less money. He shouldn't leave it up solely to his agent, who would easily sign the Raiders deal since it means more money for him. He needs to look at all the offers he gets and look at each situation independently...you know, like every other player in the world does.

This is really old news and a non-issue. His agent is going to find him the most money possible, shocking.

Ehhh. I think you're being a little naive as to how many players, the NFL is simply a job to. I know I'd take the extra million(s) and go to the bay area.

100% will leave Detroit if they don't franchise him. Sexton also makes money from endorsements and Suh will increase his endorsement money outside of Detroit

You do realize its in the best interest of the agent as well for suh to be most effective where he goes for his following contract as well in which the agent makes money off of as well....

Wrong. He's crazy to take less money for more work. With Oakland, he's making a ton more per game.

You balance initial money and chance for success AS AN INDIVIDUAL (which guarantees more money in the future).

Coaches and scheme matter here a lot.

Honestly, unless I was some QB like Marino that was an all-time great that people brought up "No rings though derp!" I wouldn't give a shite about winning when it came to my contract. Give me the best possible situation for me to make money and have a lengthy, successful individual career. I'll worry about winning once I'm on a team.

Mine would be. This is how I would view contracts if I made the league:

1st) not really much choice because it's likely the team that drafted you
2nd) second if I'm good enough to get here I'm 100% maximizing my income to set myself up for life
3rd) If I'm lucky enough to get here MAYBE I try to get a ring, but more than likely I still take the money

I'd want to maximize my potential earnings too. I'd reserve veto power so I didn't end up in the Black Hole of Oakland or the swamps of the St. John's River. But other than a few caveats like those, I'd let the guy (Sexton) I'm paying handsomely to negotiate negotiate.

Yeah but they have to live in Michigan which is pretty miserable as well.
