What he did with the Pistons is completely irrelevant. That team is hopeless.
No. No it isn't irrelevant.
Josh Smith is hot garbage.

Why are you knighting for Josh Smith? Nothing good can come from that.

We already have our own Josh Smith. For some reason, Evans gets a pass for being the same type of player. It did take people about 5 or 6 years to realize who Josh Smith was, though.

You just ruined my day.

I don't like Tyreke Evans, either, FWIW.

So a lot of you want two Tyreke Evans on the team. That will end well. I do not see how Josh Smith will co-exist with Harden who loves taking shots all day.

It's the NBA and its fan's in general. Like I said, Josh Smith was viewed as being one of the next big things in the NBA at one point. Broke into the league very young. He was that hybrid who could rebound and block shots. Was a decent enough passer. He had highlight reel dunks. He could really do a whole lot of things except shoot. That Swiss army knife type game made people ignore his shooting inefficiencies. It wasn't until the last few years that people realizes his bad offensive philosophy far outweighs any positive he does otherwise.
^ people are starting to realize the same about Evans. Simmons dubbed him one of the worst contracts. Goldsberry made a mockery of his shot chart. Blind fandom often gets in the way of how much a player kills a team

To be fair to Reke at least he knows he's terrible at shooting. He pretty much only shoots jumpers if he's really feeling it or as a last resort.
It's still a major problem, but I don't think it's the willfil obstinate lack of fricks given by smith

You're right, he's not as out of hand as Smith.

That proves nothing.
Add Kobe, Jamal Crawford, Monta, Westbrook, Lillard, Harden, Ginobili. They all have similar looking numbers.
Evans is not a comparison to Josh Smith.
He needs to learn to pass the ball more, but he's no Josh SMith, and he's actually been shooting decent from 3 this year.

If we have to watch a Josh Smith iso at the end of a Pelicans game... Monty might actually get fired from negative press so bring it on.

quote:Agreed. I remember one of Smith's last year in Atlanta he shoot 70% in the paint and 30% out of it.

Josh Smith doesn't advance your gamestate like at all when he's in the game on top of being a cancer.
Tyreke at least hits a jumper every now an then and has curtailed his boneheadedness to a degree.

Yeah, they both shoot around 60% at the rim for their career. They are frickin putrid everywhere else on the floor while shooting close to 15 shots a game.
Follow me here
The NBA tracks shot charts from
At the rim
3ft-10ft
10ft-16ft
16ft-3P
3P
ok?
Evans and Smith have 15 years of NBA experience combined. In those 15 seasons, they have only shot 40% from any of those spots on the floor combined two times.. TWO... and it was Smith, who happened to shoot 40% from 3ft-10ft twice. They have shot in the 30%, 20% and even down into the teens from those spots on the floor. Do you realize how bad that is? To continue even attempting those shots at such a low efficiency? Both players are terrible shooters who continue to jack up shots outside the paint with no regard.

I'm not saying he's perfect but he's doing better compared to early in the year(well except for last night but that was partly monty)
He's not a lost cause like smith is.

I dont think Smith is a lost cause. Getting out of Detroit is going to help him a lot. He's a year removed from being courted by multiple teams as one of the top FA on the market.
He is probably a better player than Evans, honestly. Same type of offensive game, but at least he's capable of being a very good defender.

Has he been a good defender lately? I saw in the MSB thread he got torched by plumlee last night.

Honestly, I havent watched much of him since he went to Detroit. But I watched a ton of Hawk games when I lived in ATL. He's still pretty young and athletic, I think he still has some game left in him.
Posted on 12/22/14 at 7:20 pm to LosLobos111
he's easily an above average defender. that's what's scary about him maybe going to Houston
his usage rate on offense would rightfully plummet, but he would improve an already good defense assuming they play him at the 4
harden/Beverly/monteijunas or smith/Howard/ariza would be formidable
