Pistons waive F Josh Smith. "“We are shifting priorities to aggressively develop our younger players," says coach/president Stan Van Gundy.

Translation: tank.

And they are still better off without him while tanking at the same time. Using the stretch takes up a nice little chunk of their salary for 5 years, but its still better than having that loser on their team.

$5.2 million is going to be less than the MLE in an $80+ million cap. This probably is the result of a power struggle between Smith and SVG, but it could also be they'd rather move forward with Monroe than Smith. This would let them do that.

Exactly. Not enough basketballs for that team.

Well...we are 5-23...paying him and Jennings to be miserable on the bench would probably be the best way to tank at this point.

I would have sent him to Sacramento for Thompson, Landry, and McCallum. It was known the were interested and that return package is nothing special.

Same thing with Ben Gordon and Charlie V. He had some of the worst free agent signings ever.

They're horrible either way. When I hear their management say they're "developing younger players" that tells me they want to get the best possible draft pick they can.

If you're going to be bad, might as well be the worst that you can be.

I can see the Mavs making a run at him. They're all in and they need bench players.

He and Dwight are BFFs so I can definitely see Houston adding him too.

Which would be hilarious.

Twitter is saying his best friend in the league is Rondo.

Josh Smith’s closest friend in the NBA is new Mavs guard Rajon Rondo. Dallas has some roster spots to fill & needs front court bench help.

I wouldn't mind him coming off the bench in Houston at all.

Rockets center Dwight Howard is also close with Josh Smith, too. Ex-AAU teammates from ATL. Rockets had previous interested in Smith, too

shite I'd take him. The Pistons were the worst possible fit. He can be a good player in the right situation.

Especially now that they have his BFF Rondo on the roster.

God I hope not. Still confused as to how Josh Smith was ever held at high esteem.

Smith seems like the guy that you always say "he'd be great in the right situation" but nothing ever ends up being the right situation for him.
