I'm confused. Are we talking about Ole Miss winning an SEC Championship?

Seriously, ODIO was an inspired bit of trolling. The way you got it to become this board-wide rallying cry, knowing full well it was going nowhere... Truly remarkable.

Congrats on finding an online dictionary?

quote:

WHAT DO WE WANT ? Dead cops! When do we want it? Now!" Followed by...you guessed it...Dead Cops.

Did DeBlasio endorse this chant, the crowd chanting it, or the substance of the message? Did he knowingly derive some benefit from the unrest in the streets?

quote:

it amuses me that the same people who believe that an entire race of people have some kind of moral complicity for something that occurred 150 years ago, feel like they have no moral complicity for what they did this week.

What? Who? DeBlasio? Navytiger?

Who exactly blames all white people for slavery and/or all the shite that happened afterward?

What did he (or I?) do this week that renders him/me complicit.

quote:

If you want to abolish the entire concept of MORAL COMPLICITY-sign me up.

What the frick are you even talking about?

Well I did want to believe. I mean I was right, these last two Obama years have been just as bad if not worse than the first four. And there's still two more to go.

I'm interested in BHP's take on all this, but haven't seen him in a while.

Did he get banned?

Was it retribution for leading the Christmas lights protest?

Hey NT...Merry Christmas to you to and yours. And assuming you are Military....THANKS.

Hell, we're all Tiger family here...it's all locker room. Same with politics. We'll find a happy medium between the two extremes...later, rather than sooner.

What's interesting is the same people who are blaming the Mayor, President etc rather then the actual thug gang member claiming they incited him are the same people who have no problem with ministers burning the Koran, or stupid cartoons or videos when generals ask the not to do so for fear of inciting violence against our troops.

You see putting soldiers at risk is the price we pay for free speech in their eyes but damn if they condemn free speech when it comes to protesting police brutality.

You see speech they don't like can incite murder and the speaker is just as responsible as the murderer. Speech they like which incites murder is protected and the murderer alone is responsible.

Ah well, more black men married Kim Kardashian than died of Ebola in the US so they have to pivot to some new "outrage". Next week they'll be up in arms over another one and those two families whose loved ones' deaths have been politicized can finally mourn in peace.

There is a difference between saying that what DeBlasio said was imprudent and saying that it should be illegal. No one is trying to take away Al Sharpton's freedom of speech (even if some people might secretly want to). This isn't a freedom of speech issue, this is the issue of using that freedom responsibly. I have the freedom to get blackout drunk, but I am responsible enough not to use that freedom to harm myself or others. This debate is not about what is legal, it is about what is responsible. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

Another angle could be looked at where journalism and news ends and where libel and slander begins. If you have constant drumbeats of lies (which people are free to say, there's nothing in the constitution about lying to people when you're not under oath) indoctrinating a population with fear, mistrust, and anger. If you have this constant stream of propaganda creating these false narratives and embracing false martyrs, ginning up hatred and rage. At what point is doing so irresponsible? At what point are their consequences?

Where do our freedoms end?

You can't say that you are going to assassinate the president (see JFK).
You can't say "bomb" on an airplane (9/11).
You can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater (inciting panic).
You can't say or print another person's words as your own (plagiarism).
You supposedly cannot print lies about people (libel).

Why not hold race pimps accountable? Why not hold public officials accountable? If not in a court of law, can we not hold them accountable in the court of public opinion as we would any irresponsible action?

The question remains, does freedom of speech come free from consequences?

It didn't fit the narrative. I think that makes it more fun, not less.

If you don't believe in free speech for people you despise, you don't believe in free speech at all.

Are you saying there is a reasonable chance that the thug would have acted the same if these "leaders" didn't stir shite up? The mayor, president etc. know exactly what they are doing, and they know it is wrong.
