I find it very strange if all the stipulations in the contract that are being stated are in fact true and are quite worrisome to me as to Alleva's confidence in several things.

Fact is that no one knows for sure until LSU states it is signed. If Chavis signed it, LSU will immediately come out and state so. Until then, it is just speculation.

If they aren't willing to at least give Chavis a legitimate raise and instead are putting more limitations on him than others at his position are getting, then Alleva is truly a complete moron, and I wouldn't blame Chavis if he chose to leave.

Alleva may ultimately be responsible, but you do realize that the contract details aren't something Alleva is responsible for. Someone else works on those. The answer may dismay you.

So is the premise here that the reports are not true? Has Chavis agreed to stay or not?

sounds like you are saying you KNOW that Chavis started a rumor that he was leaving (and so did Miles). so, based on your KNOWLEGE OF FACT, you are calling Aleva a succor (whatever that is) and you are stating that Miles and Chavis are playing him as a fool.

the possibility of Chavis leaving is very very dangerous right now. Aleva would be the fool if he didn't play the game and pay him more. to lose a proven DC like Chavis over a piddling amount of money would be idiotic.

IMO, this was leaked intentionally to force Alleva's hand. I doubt he signs what's currently "offered" and his offer will be increased to match whatever A&M is going to offer him in terms of yearly salary and buyout clauses.

Chief already had the extension offer when the aTm rumors started. The numbers mentioned by the reporter state this is an extension, not a raise.

There is one great thing about Chief, he is maybe the most loyal assistant coach in the game today. I know money talks but I would think that others schools have offered as much or more money but he seems to be loyal to Les. As he was to Tennesee for many years.

I'm sorry, but does anyone really believe what Guilbeau says?

If Chavis wants what Muschamp is getting, then pay him! We cannot afford to lose him

Agree, LSU had the best D in the SEC, so he should be paid like it...

Don't think he's getting much of a raise. Just the extension. Anyone who thought he was going to Aggies is an idiot. The guy is loyal and loves Les Miles.

I guess he hasn't signed. But I thought the original deal was a one year extension which was on the table before the Aggie stuff. This seems like a diff deal than what was reported a couple of weeks ago.

quote:

LSU athletic officials say defensive coordinator John Chavis has received a one-year extension through the 2015 season.

LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette says the extension pays Chavis the same $1.3 million salary he gets right now.

Chavis' previous three-year contract was set to expire at the end of 2014.

So diff deal. With a tiny raise. Nothing crazy.

No reason to doubt him. In any event, I think many would believe that Chief is better than Muschamp as a DC, so it's not far fetched that he would want what Will's getting.

Bottom line is coaching payrolls aren't stagnant. 1.3 mil was a hefty chunk when that contract started however many years ago, but others (See Muschamp) have caught up or passed him. Fair market value for Chief has gone up, and there is zero reason for him to not get paid. I think he will, contract negotiations like this dont happen overnight. LSU has one of the highest net worth programs in the country, no reason some raises cant be given.

This is exactly the time frame I wanted at minimum. I don't think he stays longer than that though. We'll probably have to look for many coaches in 3 years.

As I stated in another thread, Chief loves it at LSU and the only thing stopping him from signing the new contract is the stipulation that the contract is only valid if Les is the head coach. He is already guaranteed 1.3 million next year but if he signs the new contract and Les left tommorrow his contract is null and void. Would you sign it under these conditions? No. It is just a business decision and chief can still work under his current contract which doesn't expire until December 2015.

This contract has been on his desk since Dec. 11th. I talked to him that Thursday and he is not going to sign it as written but has NO plans to go elsewhere. His buyout is 25% of remaining contract. I think I posted on the 12th that you are going to be surprised who is coming back next year and mentioned a DL, LB, and OL. Guess who told me this. This was a week before Hunter rumors started. KA will probably be next, just has to talk with family first. Mills coming back is a surprse as chief said both Jalens were gone.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure but it seems many assistant coaching contracts would be tied to the head coach. I hope their is a way around the impasse.

Chavis needs to be here or Les will have less success.
