I think, at this point in history, the burden is on those who want to keep the embargo to show why its existence is a good thing for America.

We deal with countries with, at best, equally bad human rights records (if not worse), so the moralist argument doesn't work.

Someone please tell me what America is getting from cutting off Cuba.

That's the only point I raised that you addressed.
It is in the US interest to have stable democracies near it's border. See Canada.
