You hardly hear anyone talk about the show anymore and I don't sense any anticipation for the final "season."

I'm sure it'll kick back up when it starts again but I still think it was a ridiculously stupid move

As a long time fan I'm excited for it but yes, AMC fricked up royally splitting it up. It's entirely possible Jon Hamm may never win an individual Emmy for the show as a result too.

I feel bad for Weiner because he was adamantly against it as well.

As an outsider who's never watched the show, it certainly seems that way. There's no buzz whatsoever anymore. I actually thought the series was over already.

Not for me, I'm a fan. The night it comes back on, I'm going to make and old fashoned, sit back and relax.

I mean, we are still, what, 4 months away from the last 7 episodes? I think suitable buzz will build as it nears. I personally cannot wait for how this will end. I thought the way they ended last season was awesome. Makes me feel like everything is about to come crashing down for ole Don and he will be the man falling from the building in the opening credits. Obviously not an original theory by me, but I buy into it.

It's not Don, somebody has finally had enough of Pete Campbell.

I think part if is that 7-1 seemed more like a miniature season than a half a season. Not a whole lot lended itself to discussion in the break. I'm not complaining, the break was a dumb idea in the first place and I'm glad they decided not to give some sort of ridiculous cliff hanger or something.

Looking at Wiki it seems the ratings were a little down for the first half. I wonder if a lot of folks were just like "screw it, I'll get caught up right before the second half begins." I damn near did that myself.

I detest everything about the split final season and that AMC did it out of selfish desperation instead of making the decision for the show, but this statement is incorrect. About the only positive for the split is it gives everyone one more chance at an award. If the whole season had aired last year, Hamm definitely goes Emmy-less. This season he will face much less competition for the Emmy (no Cranston & no McConaissance).

I don't think that makes sense. If all of the final season aired in 2014, then he would have easily lost to Cranston (and been behind Wooderson). Now, at least he has a shot without having to face either of those guys.

Yeah, I agree. Hamm actually has a chance to win one still where he obviously wouldn't have before. Still hate this split season bullshite though.

Look forward to the final 7, I wish they would add a few more episodes to the second half...

IMO, Hamm should have 2 at least (season 1 & 4)

Yep. Its like the program director woke up, went to his Monday morning meeting, and started the agenda :"Good morning. First up is Breaking Bad will be ending. Next up Mad Men will be endi... WHAAAAAAAT?"

This, but that is completely coincidental.

I'm pretty hyped for the last run. I am completely torn on what I want to see happen. Part of me wants to see him wreck house, go back to being awesome Don Draper like he was at the beginning of the show and remind all those shitsniffers who the real lord of the livingroom is.

The other part of me wants to see it all come crashing down, have Don's hubris finally catch up with him and see him dive off the roof.

The problem is no one is talking about this show right now. None. So unless AMC really ramps up pushing it and really pushes promoting the performances in the second half the whole "well he gets another shot" is a moot point if another show like True Detective has someone turn out a groundbreaking performance.

That's the thing. Mad men has never been a cliff hanger show. It worked for breaking bad because they could end it right at a big what the hell is going to happen moment. Mad men is a locamotive every season or rather a game of chess...slowly thought the season it gains speed and sets the pieces to where they all come together at the end.

With the split it will be starting back at sqaure one.

It killed it a little bit for me.

AMC is so desperate.
