Add in the lost $$$ Sony should have received at the box office and you're looking at close to about a $200mil loss.

You're good. But I'd find better friends/acquaintances.

Think it has something to do with the insurance they have on the movie.

Something like it only covers a "total" loss but I may be talking out my arse.

Guaranteed litigation nightmare if that's the case

All retards see is "Sony cancels release". It gets glossed over that it was after every single major movie theater dropped the film. They had no choice but to look at other options. And all online services whether it was on demand or free were afraid of being targeted by hackers if they partnered with Sony. So here we are. Sony wanted to release it from the beginning and they're having to use their own service for it. Although I'm surprised they didn't do anything through the playstation.

Because they will still collect the insurance on the film. They aren't going to lost anything doing this.

I would bet they do a Crackle and DVD simultaneous release but only after they cash in the insurance policy.

It's a win for them and in the long run they might come out ahead this way vs what they would have made by releasing it.

You would think with this being such a big story people would actually read something about it.

They would limit the audience that way though. Crackle is on smart TVs, Roku, Xbox, the web, etc that millions of people have access to vs a few million Playstations.

Yeah. I wasn't really saying they shouldn't still use crackle just that they didn't release it to the playstation as well taking advantage of both resources.

Is there not a Crackle app on PS4? I know there was one on Xbox 360. Not sure if it is on Xbone. I would have to look when I get home.

It's never this simple. I highly doubt this won't be litigated to death

Not sure honestly. I only have a PS3 which I've only used for blu rays for years now. If there is, then forget what I said.
