There is precedent for a guy struggling at his first HC job and then doing much better with a second chance but yeah he would scare me.

I'd be curious to see how he does with no management control

His game-planning wasn't that bad, but the draft picks and roster management were undoubtably terrible. He was in way over his head while in Denver.

If you look back, the only mismanagement of the roster was regarding Cutler and Marshall, who have both proven to be problem children elsewhere. His tenure in Denver teetered between oddly brilliant and awful, but losing Cutler immediately might actually have made it better, especially considering the draft picks that came for him.

Falcons also looking at Gase and MickeyDs along with Shaw apparently

quote:

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Falcons plan to fire coach Mike Smith after the season. La Canfora adds that "it would take a shocking playoff run to alter that scenario." This doesn't come as a surprise. Smith has been on the job for seven seasons now, but the team has taken a few steps back the past couple years. The Falcons are said to be looking at Broncos OC Adam Gase, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, and Stanford coach David Shaw, among others, as replacements.

It was actually worse than you're making it out to be...

Of course trading Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall were most notably bad moves, but there's more. Knowshon Moreno and Robert Ayers, both 1st round picks, severely underwhelmed during their careers in Denver. Tim Tebow was another wasted 1st round pick. Josh McDaniels then used a 1st round pick to trade up into the 2nd round to take Alphonso Smith who only lasted 3 years in the NFL.

There's more, but you get the point.

Gase probably is still a no named assistant if Peyton doesn't chose the broncos

You don't know what you're talking about

He is actually right. Gase learned under Mike Martz but is actually younger than Peyton. Peyton runs the practice for the offense and has a huge role in deciding the gameplan and the plays called. I doubt Gase becomes OC in 2013 without a QB like Manning to rely on.

Manning did not go to the 49ers because of Harbaugh. While rumor, it seems to have substance. Harbaugh told Manning he thought he could throw harder than Manning as of 2012 despite being 12 or years older. Manning did not care for that. Manning and Harbaugh would have butted heads like crazy.

McDaniels did a lot of bad. I went to check out his draft picks. He only had two good picks for where they were chosen - Demaryius Thomas is a gift Broncos fans should still be grateful for. Eric Decker in the 4th round that same year was a huge value find. Every other draft pick was garbage. Knowshon contributed in 2013, but not worth a 1st round pick in 2009. Zane Beadles was the only other contributor of note, but I don't think he was worth a 2nd round pick in 2010. He's already gone in any case, as is Decker.

Tomsula is not an X's & O's guy. He's a Dline coach at that level. Rather bump fangio's salary up and keep him where he is but there is a possibility he could just go with Jim, after all he came with him.

Fangio would also possibly have other options, perhaps he's sick of the drama that the 49er upper management brings

I'd rather keep Smitty than hire McDaniels.
