Says less accidents and can be attributed to other factors.

Talking to people that work for the state and on the highways all pretty much say having different speed limits for vehicles is a bad thing. I think they said restricting them to a certain lane is the real change that is beneficial

One problem is that both the size and weight of trailers has been increased in an effort to have trucks compete with railroads
If they're such bad drivers, why don't they wreck on normal highways and back roads? Log trucks normally stick to the highways and rarely go on the interstate when they don't have to

Trucks, in general, drive too fast for conditions. This is especially problematic in congested traffic areas. Because of their mass, stopping distances are several times higher than most vehicles.
Right lane only, 55 mph max for trucks should be the rule.
It works like a charm on the Basin Bridge. Before those restrictions it was like a scene from Road Warrior when you drove on that bridge.
They should follow the same approach through the city.

Not a lot of thought put into your "right lane only" theory. They are restricted to the middle lane in most cities for a reason, and that is because they hold up traffic in the left lane, and block people from entering in the right lane

Driver didn't think so because the vehicle hit was in his blind spot...and should have known better

Sorry, but if the trucker plowed into the SUV, they were following too closely and the trucker is at fault.

Maybe the trucks should be required to have something like the back up cameras which remove blind spots. Would take time to phase in. People should drive the speed limit more and not move over when passing until 6 car lengths beyond the truck or so.

from what I see every day driving on the Interstate in NOLA, you have trucks who will ride the left lane the entire length. I can understand the ones that ride the left lane near the 610/10 merges, as they have a harder time getting over. But every day you have a truck in the left lane doing 65, and hanging out, without an intent to move over for anyone.
When there are three or more lanes a truck has no right to be in the passing lane.
I cannot wait to start seeing these.

Blind spot detectors are the best idea in this thread. They have them in cars, but not big trucks?

A recent trend in trucking is the increasing installation of front facing dash cameras. Some trucks even have dash cams recording down each side of the truck. As the cameras are increasing in numbers, law enforcement and the courts are increasingly using the videos to assign liability after an accident.
I recently saw a video where a car cut in front of a semi (is was in the right lane), and the car laid on the brakes to make an exit ramp. The semi struck the rear of the car. Law enforcement reviewed the video and cited the car driver for reckless driving and held that the semi driver was not at fault. I just looked for the video so I could link it , but can't find it.
Something else to consider is that there are times when a semi driver sacrifices himself and his rig to avoid hitting a car. That is what often leads to the semi flipping over. As an example of what I mean is that if I'm traveling down the highway and a deer jumps out in front of me, I'm going to hit the deer and not swerve to avoid the deer and wind up jack knifeing or running off the road. If a car jumps out in front of me, I'm going to do all I can to avoid the car.
There are a lot of nimrod truck drivers, but many, many more impatient and reckless car drivers. You guys driving cars, sometimes give the semi drivers a break, don't speed up and cut in front of them and lay on the brakes to make that turn or make that exit. Wait behind him and make your turn, what's it going to cost you, 15 or 20 seconds in time?
