I'm trying really hard not to say "I hate Christmas" around the kids. I don't really hate it--I do love going to church, singing my favorite hymns, and watching the kids get excited about stuff.
But this time of year I feel SO much pressure to make everything perfect and I know that it won't be, so I get completely overwhelmed and feel down about everything. It starts running together in a big pile that starts to feel crushing: still have to finish finding gifts (will the kids be disappointed that they didn't get _______? They never are, but I still worry about that), take kids to see Santa, make gingerbread houses, cookies, wrap presents, etc, etc, etc.
And as much as I like spending time with my husband's family (my parents are dead), I dread the sad Christmas Eve tearfest where family members choke up talking about my deceased mother-in-law. It just makes me sadder to miss people, and I know that she in particular would not have wanted us to feel sad at Christmas.
It sounds stupid but that's how I feel. I actually look forward to the 26th when the weight will be lifted 'cause it's all over.

How anyone can be depressed at Christmas is beyond my comprehension. It's the most wonderful time of the year.
It's about being with friends and family and getting together just to enjoy each other's company.
If you're worried about presents or the right gift or impressing people or whatever you're focusing on the wrong thing.

It's the shitty weather. I've got a couple of things to finish up on a 3-day long project, and it is very hard to get up and do them right now

If you're feeling depressed:
Take a sheet of paper and make a column of numbers 1 down to 30.
Write down 30 things you are grateful for. Could be health, family, car, place to stay, electricity, dog, etc. nothing is too small.
Sit back and look at your list and concentrate on all the wonderful things you have going for you right now. That will help kick out the depressed feelings.
