Probably not, but if it's someone you care about, it's tough to not say anything.

This is what we've been talking about.

He works with another friend of mine, and it's not confirmed, but he thinks he goes home and drinks during lunch sometimes. In fact, he's almost positive. He is a finance guy, and his work isn't really stressful or anything, and if he does drink during the day, it doesn't hurt his work performance.

But, if you have to go home during the day to drink, that's where we think we should get involved.

If he drinks "at least a fifth a night" I find it hard to believe he can go days without drinking and he is probably an alcoholic.

It doesn't need to affect work for it to be a problem. If you're drinking a fifth a night, you'll be dead in 15 years, if you're lucky.

CAGE questionnaire

The questionnaire asks the following questions:

1. Have you ever felt you needed to Cut down on your drinking?

2. Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
3. Have you ever felt Guilty about drinking?
4. Have you ever felt you needed a drink first thing in the morning (Eye-opener) to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?

I think he would probably honestly answer no to all of those questions. He doesn't really "over drink" around us...just when he's home alone I guess, and possibly at lunch.

LQ is slang for Liquor Store.

How good of a friend is he?It's a tough call.I've had a few friends that were "functional alcoholics" for years.

One switched from whiskey to beer after 25 years and is still alive.

The other stayed on vodka and died a horrible death a few years ago.

Good luck with it.

They have to want to.

You and your friends sound like dicks.

Leave the guy alone.

He's a good friend of our group. College buddy of one of my friends. They work together, and we've all been pretty good friends for years.

Vodka is his drink.

In college he would binge like everyone, but just beer back then. Now...vodka.

The fact that you said he can go days w/o drinking makes me think he's gotta under control.

I worked with a raging alcoholic. Super smart guy but a lush nonetheless. He drank crown and everyone morning you could smell it all over him. The rare days that he came in sober he'd go drink at lunch and you could easily smell it. If your friend was drinking at lunch you would smell it.

Has his girlfriend ever said anything? If anyone would know she would.

I witnessed him buy a fifth from the Liquor store without ever saying a word. He just pulled up to the window, and she came over and handed him a fifth of vodka. He paid with exact change, and the clerk said.."see you tomorrow".

Multiple empty bottles of vodka in his very small trash can after he said he had taken out the trash a couple of days ago.

If he's depressed he hasn't shown it. He hasn't really said anything to any of us about anything bothering him.

Friend of mine gets hammered every weekend (he's in his 40s). He also drinks every night to at least a buzz. He has a 9-5 job and does ok, but is unmarried and lives alone.

A local liquor store (that doesn't deliver), has an employee who is so familiar with him that he will deliver him beer if my friend is too drunk to drive -- for $20.

My friend is in denial about his drinking.

Every "hardcore" alcoholic I've known ended up with vodka.

The guy I knew ended up drinking vodka day and night.Slowly dying at 54.His organs shut down lying in a hospital bed.

I saw him with the shakes. He was staying at a buddy's house. They were giving him 1 1/2 oz every 4 hours.I've never seen anyone freaking out like that.

One of the nicest guys I've known.Everyone loved him.

It's not as easy to smell it on people that drink vodka. That's one reason why a lot of alcoholics go that route, and it being clear makes it easier to sneak into other drinks unnoticed.

I'm wondering how you feel that you need to say something at all?

He's not fricking with your life, he seems to be handling a job, he's not in trouble with the law...

Mind your God damned business.

Not sure what's more annoying, you capitalizing "liquor" or using the term "LQ"?
